I read the list once.

Then again.

Then the horror of it settles over me like dust after a blast.

This is not just what truth survives. This is what future people can do with it. Proof can become medicine, but it can also become a blade. Warnings can become wisdom, but they can also become control manuals for tyrants. Collapse models can help civilizations prepare for dangerous knowledge, or they can teach zealots precisely how to break a society’s shared meaning on purpose.

My hand trembles under the shard.

Ghar sees. Of course he sees.

“Anita,” he says quietly.

“I know.”

“You do not have to carry this alone.”

The warmth in his voice almost makes me close my eyes. Almost. But the projections are still waiting, and if I stop looking at them, I am afraid I will choose by fear instead of judgment.

“That is the problem,” I say. “Nobody should carry this alone. Not me. Not Rolaev . Not the Precursors. Not any council of smug academic fossils with temperature-controlled offices and no dirt under their nails.”

Brakk lifts a hand. “I would also like to not carry it.”

“You are carrying it whether you like it or not.”

“That seems unfair.”

“It is.”

“Honest, but rude.”

Rolaev pushes away from the wall, wincing as her wounded side pulls. “The collapse models must not leave this chamber.”

I turn toward her. “That sounded suspiciously like useful advice instead of murder.”

Her mouth tightens. “Do not mistake fracture for friendship.”

“I would never. Your friendship application is currently buried under several counts of mass murder.”

Brakk mutters, “And bad vibes.”

Rolaev ignores him. “The models are too dangerous. They were designed to predict psychological cascade failure after cosmological revelation. In the wrong hands, they become instructions.”
