Destined For Her Alien Daddy

A descending route appears through the ruin systems beneath us: transit conduits, gravity shafts, sealed rings, and a final chamber far below every mapped structure. The path pulses once, then fractures into several possible routes before collapsing back into a single silver line.

“Yes,” I say. “The ruins are giving us a route.”

Brakk closes his eyes briefly. “I hate when the murder basement becomes helpful.”

I study the route more closely. “It’s not helpful. It’s responsive. There’s a difference.”

“Is the difference going to kill us?”

“Probably indirectly.”

“Refreshing honesty. Hate that too.”

Ghar looks toward me. “What will be inside?”

The question should thrill me.

It does, but the thrill arrives wrapped in dread.

I think of Rolaev ’s voice. Truth without purpose. Marrit’s Well. Families collapsing under partial revelation. Teren dying in smoke because I woke a signal I did not understand. Sira dragged through a wall because the Choir knew exactly how to weaponize compassion. My hand trembles inside the projection field.

The lattice reacts, threads vibrating outward in ripples.

Ghar notices immediately. “Anita.”

“I’m fine.”

His expression says he does not believe me, but he does not correct me in front of the others. That restraint is kind enough to make my throat tighten.

Sira steps carefully away from Brakk and stands on her own, though she grips a ribbed wall support. Her voice remains hoarse from the collar. “The final substrate may not behave like the fragments we have seen. It may contain records without interpretive buffers.”

I look over my shoulder. “Meaning?”

“Meaning the archive may show causal truth without emotional translation,” Sira says. “It may not care whether the mind receiving it can bear scale, accident, contradiction, or absence of purpose.”

The chamber grows quieter around her words.

Brakk rubs his face with one hand. “That sounded like a poetic way to say it might crack our brains like cheap dinnerware.”

Sira’s gaze stays on me. “Yes.”

I try to smile.

It fails.

Ghar’s voice comes from beside me, low and controlled. “Then we do not access it.”

The answer lands exactly where my fear already lives.

I turn toward him. “We came this far.”

“And nearly died several times.”

“Sira was captured because Rolaev wants this buried.”

“Rolaev is not the only measure of danger.”

“I know that.”
