He trailed his fingers along my wrist. “Your breathing is rapid, and I can feel your pulse racing. Plus, you’re flushed. You want me to—”

“Gracie!” I exclaimed. “Hi!”

Matthew pulled back, scowling at his sister. “We were having a private conversation.”

She laughed. “You were trying to lure her away. I could see your moves, brother. Not very subtle.”

“I wasn’t trying to be.”

“Too bad. I’m stealing her. We’re baking desserts for later, and I hear she makes incredible cakes.”

“You have Beth for that.”

“She’s at work. I’m taking Maddy.”

He had sulked all afternoon.

I sighed, sad thinking about leaving this place. It had been a wonderful few days. Surrounded by Matthew’s family. Getting to know them. Being alone with him. Falling asleep next to him and waking up cradled in his embrace. I loved every moment of it. Going back to my little place and living alone again was going to take some getting used to.

Never mind the incredible sex. We had always been good together, but somehow our time apart made it extra incredible now. The passion was constant, and even with his limited movements, Matthew was spectacular. Inventive. Pulling me into small spaces and empty spots to kiss me breathless or bring me to a mind-shattering orgasm with his fingers or mouth. He discovered the ledge in the shower was the perfect height to fuck me on. With his body caging me in, the long, slow roll of his hips, and his mouth covering mine, I came so hard I actually saw stars. And I screamed the names of constellations into his mouth as I climaxed.

He had decided he needed a ledge the exact height in his shower at home and planned to have a contractor out as soon as we got back.

The sound of rocks moving under footsteps interrupted my musings, and I cracked open one eye, seeing Matthew heading my way. He was golden from the sun, despite the sunscreen we slathered on daily. I was still pale, but he looked as if we’d been somewhere in the tropics. He stopped in front of me, bending and kissing me softly. “There you are. I’ve been searching for you.”

“Did you think I’d run away?”

“I wondered. I went to the Hub to make sure they weren’t working you to death, but they said you’d left already. You weren’t at the house or the beach. This was my last stop, then I was going to get Aiden to search the cameras. Call in the RCMP.”

I laughed and ruffled his hair. “Overreaction as usual, Dr. VanRyan.”

He nudged me to the left and sat beside me, his arm going around my waist and tugging me close. “Not when it comes to you, Maddy. My reactions are just right.”

I laid my head on his shoulder. “It’s so beautiful here. Peaceful.”

He chuckled dryly. “Once you’re away from the gangs up there, yes.”

“You love it.”

“Yeah, I do. I forget how much I love it when I’m stuck in real life, working my ass off in the ER.”

“Your family is great.”

He pressed a kiss to my head. “And they love you. Exactly as I said they would.”

“I kinda love them too.”

“Good.”

“It’s going to be hard to go home now.”

“Which part?” he asked, turning to face me.

I laughed. “The quiet. My little apartment is going to seem very dull and lonesome when I get back.”

“I’m glad you brought that up.”

“Oh? Why?”
