“Okay,” Jed said again.
“Are you just humoring me? Or do you believe me?” Remy twisted in the seat, trying to get a better look at Jed’s face.
“I guess I believe you.”
“Why wouldn’t you believe me? I mean, I don’t remember you mauling me last night.”
“Yeah, but I wanted to.” Jed’s voice was low, and Remy shivered. Jesus, that was hot.
“Well, don’t hold back next time. If you want a next time. Which is what we’re talking about, I think?”
“I still worry that it’s not a great idea,” Jed said, and Remy really wished he could see behind those sunglasses. “But. I think it’s also pretty obvious that I don’t have any self-control when it comes to you.”
“Oh.” Remy could tell that he was definitely blushing now. He thought Jed had amazing self-control, but okay. This was good. Very good. Excellent, even. “So. We’re going to try this out? Being together?”
“Looks like it.”
Remy settled back in his seat, wondering what they’d actually figured out. He wasn’t sure they’d made much progress, but then, he’d never had this kind of conversation before. Was he allowed to ask what that meant? Because he still didn’t know what the hell Jed was thinking, other than that it sounded like he was open to having sex again.
Which was good, obviously. But not a complete answer.
Fuck it, he was going to ask.
“Just so I’m clear, what does together mean to you, exactly? Other than, like, sleeping together.”
“Well. You told me that when you’re with someone, you don’t want them sleeping with other people.” Jed lowered his sunglasses for a moment and gave Remy a look. Remy shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Damn, that look was scorching. Did Jed think he could give him a look like that without shutting off his brain? Because if so, he was wrong.
“I did?” Remy asked. “Oh, yeah, I guess I did say that. About how, like, I prefer that. But if you don’t—”
“I’m not going to sleep with anyone else, Remy, and that won’t be a hardship for me. If it works for you, I’d prefer that you don’t, either. Though I guess you probably picked up on that already.”
“Really?” Remy wasn’t sure what he had missed, because nothing about Jed’s reaction to him had been obvious.
“I mean, I was kind of a jerk to you that time we were at the club and that girl had her hands all over you. And then again when Victor hit on you.” Jed looked embarrassed. “But, you know, if that doesn’t work for you, I can live with it.”
“Why wouldn’t it work for me?” A shiver of excitement ran down Remy’s body at the thought that Jed had already been into him back then. That maybe Jed had been suffering, too, these past few weeks. “I’m good with that. I don’t want to hook up with anyone else.”
“But you’ll tell me if that changes?”
“Um, yeah. But I don’t see that happening.”
“As long as you’re honest with me about it, okay?”
Remy felt like maybe there was something going unsaid that he wasn’t picking up on, but Jed continued before he could ask about it.
“I also don’t want to hide, especially from the team. But my contract isn’t up this year, and yours is. So you tell me how you feel about that.”
That one was easy, actually.
“Same,” Remy said. “I’ve never felt the need to, like, announce who I’m with, but if Hal asks, yeah, I’m not lying to Cap.”
Jed let out a burst of laughter at that. “Lying to Hal is never a good idea. Not least because you’ll never get away with it. So, we’re doing this, then?”
He looked at Remy again, and Remy’s heart stuttered, because Jed’s expression was uncertain, too, like maybe he had more feelings about this than he was letting on.
“Yeah.” Remy tried to make his voice sound a lot more confident than he felt. “We are.”
Jed nodded. A minute later, he reached over and squeezed Remy’s hand, then pulled it over and rested it on his thigh. That was unexpected.
