"I don't know anything."
"Interesting." I hadn't asked a question. I leaned closer. "You should probably save your breath." His eyes widened just before I punched him, his eyes rolled back and then he fell into Luka’s arms.
We took him to one of our properties outside the city, it was nothing glamorous. Concrete floor, concrete walls with good drainage so we could rinse off the blood from the floor directly into the drainage system. Anton was already sweating when Marek shoved him into the room. Two of my vampires stood inside, Stefan stood by the door, Kosta was against the far wall. Luka, once we caught Anton had returned to the mansion.
I removed my jacket taking my time as I hear Anton’s heart race in fear as he watches me roll my sleeves toward my elbows. "I'll tell you what I know."
"Good."
"I want protection." I raise a brow. He swallowed before he says, "from Ceasar."
That stopped me, there it was, the fucking name I have been waiting for, the name I wanted to hear to confirm he was involved in this. I stepped closer.
"Say it again."
"Ceasar."
My uncle's name coming from this bastard's mouth made the berserker stir. I grabbed Anton by his throat and lifted him, his feet left the floor, his hands shooting up to claw at my wrist.
"Where is he?"
"I don't know."
I drove him into the wall, concrete cracked behind his shoulders. "Wrong answer."
"I swear!" I hit him, once. His head snapped sideways, blood appeared at the corner of his mouth. Again. Skin split across his cheek. Again.
"Where." I growl
"I don't…don’t know!" I threw him across the room. He hit the floor hard and rolled onto his side, coughing. I walked after him.
"Someone fired into my home." Anton scrambled backward at my words. "Someone aimed a rifle at my brother's woman."
"I wasn't there!"
"My woman was in that room." I snap
"I didn't order it!" I caught his coat and hauled him upright.
"My nieces and nephews were in that house." His eyes widened, good, now he understood that this wasn't business. There were rules in our world, territories changed hands, shipments disappeared, men betrayed one another for money, power, blood, but families? Children? Mates? You didn't fucking touch them. Not unless you wanted extermination.
I drove my fist into his stomach hearing a crack, he folded. I didn't let him fall as I pull back my arm and throw another punch that caught his jaw. Blood sprayed across the concrete. "Who supplied the rifle?"
"I don't know." Punch.
"Who knew the mansion layout?"
"I don't know!" Punch.
"Who gave them our security rotations?"
"I SWEAR TO GOD!" I slammed him against the wall again.
"Wrong fucking god." The berserker stirred harder, Bryn flashed through my mind. Her body beneath mine on the airport tarmac, blood on my hands, her frightened eyes. Then the shattered mansion window, the bullet lodged inches from Layla's head.
I hit Anton again, and again. His resistance disappeared, he sagged in my grip.
"Viking." Kosta calls, but I ignored him.
