“How?”

“Bryn.”

I take in a deep breath, “Okay, that's slightly creepy.”

“I had someone ask.”

“That's not making it less creepy.”

Then I notice his eyes snap behind me, turning my head I try to follow.

My amusement disappeared. The change must have shown because Bryn glanced behind herself. “What?”

He takes a step closer which has my heart fluttering. “Don't.”

My eyes snap back to Viking. “Don't what?”

“Go near the man behind you.”

My confusion at his words has me frowning. “What man?”

“The one near the pillar.”

I started to turn again but his hand moved to my waist. He is definitely arrogant, too direct, too confident. And I should have hated it. I should have rolled my eyes, brushed past him, turned my back on this entire moment before it could become anything real. That’s what I did best. I controlled the temperature of every interaction. I set the distance, but Viking Dragic stepped one inch closer, and my breath forgot how to behave.

His eyes drifted to my mouth like he was mapping out sins. I froze and noticed that so did he.

“Viking?”

Then he leaned in, not touching me, just bringing his voice to my ear. “He's been watching you.”

“So have you.”

“Not the same way.”

My eyes search his. “And how exactly was he watching me?” His eyes move behind me once again. “Like he was waiting for you to be alone.”

I glance toward the pillar, and see a man standing there that quickly turns his head when I look at him. “I didn't notice him.”

“I did.”

“For how long?”

“Long enough.”

“You were watching him while you were watching me?”

“I was watching everyone around you.”

“Why?”

A knot settles low on my stomach. “And how exactly was he watching me?”

I see his body tensing as he replies. “Like he was waiting for you to be alone.”

“I didn't notice him.”

“I did, because I didn't like the way he looked at you.”
