Alana smiled into his mouth. “Hi.”
He smiled back, white teeth, tan skin, five-o’clock shadow, faint dimples. “Hi,” he whispered back.
She heard her best friend squeal again.
“Babe, breathe,” Cal teased.
Leo wrapped his arms around Alana as they turned back to face their friends. “So, an update,” Alana said.
“You think?!” Tess screeched. “When did this happen?”
“Right before harvest,” Alana explained.
Leo kissed her neck. “I wish it happened sooner.”
She playfully shoved him.
“How are we not getting any of this on camera?” Tess asked.
“Don’t worry.” Sophie popped up from the other side of the booth with a menacing look on her face. “I did.”
Alana jumped out of Leo’s arms, facing her sister and the phone that was still live streaming. “Sophie!”
Sophie turned the camera so it was facing her. “Ah, you called it, folks! It turns out all of your predictions about my sister and Leo were actually true. Don’t want the young lovers to part? You know what to do,” she said with a wink.
Tess and Cal were in hysterics.
“Sophie!” Alana cried out with a laugh.
Leo sidled up next to Sophie and waved at the camera, then gave them a thumbs-up. The engagement went nuts as hearts exploded on the screen.
“You’re all ruthless,” Alana teased. She was also thankful for it though. At this point, if full-on making out on camera helped save the farm, she was willing to do it.
Cal twisted his hat backward. “I’m going to go check on Chris and the White Tails team.”
“Wait!” Alana stepped around the booth and crossed her arms. “I meant to ask you…how do you feel about hairbands?”
Cal roared in response.
“Oh god, here we go.” Tess tipped her face up to the sky.
He raised a finger. “The elastic is always way too tight.” He held up another finger. “They hurt your hair.” Another finger. “They hurt to have on your wrist.” Another finger. “And they don’t actually stay in! They’re useless.”
“I tried to tell him the benefit of using a scrunchie. So much softer,” Tess explained.
“But there aren’t any good scrunchies for men!” He shook his head vehemently. “I use my hat to keep the hair out of my face. It’s the only thing that actually works and doesn’t give me a headache.”
“Some would argue that beauty is pain,” Alana quipped.
“Trust me, I know.” He reached around Tess and squeezed her butt.
She growled and turned to slap him, but he caught her by the waist and kissed her on the mouth. She nudged his shoulder instead to push him away, then watched him walk off toward Chris.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get over that ass.” Tess sighed.
“It is a good one,” Alana replied.
Tess elbowed her. “You also have a nice ass to look at,” she whispered.
