"Yes."
"So either something is wrong or you're about to ask something you don't want the others hearing."
"The second one."
I folded my arms. "That's reassuring."
"It isn't supposed to be threatening."
"You keep saying things like that after doing threatening-looking things."
"I'm leaning against a table."
"You do it aggressively."
That actually made him laugh, brief and low before he shook his head. "I want an honest conversation before we leave tomorrow."
The humor went out of me.
"What about?"
"Your abilities."
Of course. My arms crossed over my chest before I caught myself and dropped them. He noticed anyway.
"I am not asking for a demonstration."
"That wasn't what I thought."
"Wasn't it?"
"No."
He waited.
I hated that he was getting better at this.
"Maybe a little."
"I'm asking because once we enter the Rift, I need to know what I'm planning around. Not what the Council put in your file and not what an assessor decided was technically possible. You."
I glanced toward the maps covering one wall. "You know I can heal."
"I do."
"You've seen it."
"I have."
"Then treat me as a healer."
Corian didn't answer immediately.
I looked back at him. "For now, that's what I want you to plan around. I'm your healer. If something happens where Biomancy gives us another option, I'll tell you."
His expression remained unreadable enough to be annoying. "You're asking me not to build a deployment plan around Biomancy."
"Yes."
