He would stop right now and never look back.
As if in reprimand, he nips my pulse, then soothes the hurt with his tongue. “You’re not ready to tell me what it is. That’s okay. Just live for the moment, little moon. Come on my hand, then let me taste you until you forget why you’re even here.”
My walls clench around his fingers as he curls into me, making me take his deep strokes that are setting my insides on fire.
But he’s right. I want to forget why I’m mad. That I know he’ll reject me once this is all over, that even if I survive, there’s no happy ending waiting for us.
Arwan might know my secret, he might even accept it, but I won’t survive without the pack master completing the triad. I’m too far enmeshed with them all now.
The only thing waiting for me at the end of the Monster Games is death, and I just hope I won’t be stuck in some perpetual realm and tormented for all eternity when I succumb to it.
“Stay with me,” he growls into my hair, and then his fingers pull out of me, making me whimper as he replaces them with what I really need.
He pushes his massive cock into me, just a few inches, and then holds still.
“I won’t knot you,” he promises.
I’m not in heat, which likely does help Godric control his impulses, but my entire body trembles for the desire for him to lose control.
I’d much rather die by the lust of his wolf than suffer heartbreak when his ultimate rejection tears me apart.
Tears form at the edges of my eyes, and Godric licks them away. The gesture is strangely intimate as he holds still, waiting for my body to speak to his.
I release the grief I’m holding on to so strongly. He’s right, at least, that I don’t have to concern myself with tomorrow.
For now, there’s this moment, today.
My pack master and me.
Clawing my nails down his muscular arms, he groans as he accepts my unspoken plea and sinks deeper into me.
I lose myself to him.
I submit as I allow his body to teach mine what it feels like to be wanted.
And I try hard not to imagine how much worse it’ll hurt when that desire is ripped away.
CHAPTER 39
Living in the moment worked for me, at first.
Unfortunately, the future always comes around the corner.
“It looks so small,” Sofia whispers as she threads her fingers through mine and stares out the window.
I watch the retreating encampment where we’ve spent an entire year fighting for our lives, changing, growing, and evolving until we don’t even recognize ourselves in the mirror anymore.
Life and death can make something enormous.
But Sofia is right. The Blood Moon Pack takes up only a segment of the cliff line and hides behind trees.
My reflection dimly glows back at me as I catch one last glimpse of the naked pole where a body had once hung over Godric’s tent. It feels somehow appropriate that I’m not the only one free of this place.
Maybe free isn’t the right word.
That soul is destined for Monster Isle’s castle and whatever horror awaits within.
Just like me.
