Knight:
You think everything she does is the cutest.
Tex:
Because she’s wonderful. But I don’t know that I’d call this cute so much as…ornery.
Ghost:
Let’s hear it.
Hollywood:
She just farted and blamed it on Teck! hahaha.
Tex:
Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. I’m going to teach her to blame you for everything else.
Knight:
That kid is the funniest
Ghost:
I always blame Tex when I fart too
I laughed out loud. Ghost could be so quiet, but he had a sense of humor buried under that serious surface. It came out a little easier in texting.
I typed in a response.
Joyride:
Tell Ruby that Uncle Joy is proud of her
Tex:
She answered, Park!
Well, at least the girl knew where her bread was buttered. I was overdue to take her on another park visit, anyway.
I started typing. Tell her—
A knock at the door drew my attention. The door to the pool house was glass and see-through, but it was dark. All I could see was the silhouette of a body.
I didn’t think it would be Dad. He usually just barged in like it was his house, which it was his house, so fair, I guess, even if it was annoying. Mom would knock, but that was definitely not a woman standing outside.
My heart skipped.
It couldn’t be any of the guys. They were engaged in the group chat, meaning they weren’t swinging by my place unannounced.
That only left one person, didn’t it?
My mouth went dry, and I got off the bed and walked toward the door. Everything seemed to have slowed down, as if I were in a dream. I slid open the door, and there he was.
Kit.
“Hey,” I said cautiously.
