He wrapped his arms around my hips, pulled me close, and moved us gently to the rhythm. He sang along to individual words of the lyrics. His cold lips brushed my ear, and I lowered my spoon. I let Shane lead me.

“I like this song,” he finally murmured. “About footprints in the sand. Opportunities. Sometimes I imagine this song was written for us.”

I laughed softly. “Do you even know the singer?”

Shane nodded. Shook his head. “Who doesn’t know Cade something-or-other? Everyone’s heard his name, at least since this romantic number came out.”

He licked his spoon again. “What is it about these pistachios that I can’t get enough of them?”

Shane laughed softly. “The things you know.”

I leaned my head against his shoulder. “It’s part of the job.”

“And what is it about you that I can’t get enough of?”

Smiling, I buried my face in his neck. “We’ll probably never know.”

“As long as I get my necessary dose, I don’t care.”

“Let’s go!”
