“Let’s go, honey.” I throw some sweatpants on before I hold my hand out to her. “What are you feeling like this morning?”

“Do you have any fruit? Yogurt? Oatmeal? I see beautiful parfaits in our future.” She flutters her fingers before she opens my fridge, and I slide behind her, my arms clasping in front of her body. “What are you up to?”

“Just holding my beautiful girlfriend in my arms. Is that allowed, or do I need to ask permission?”

“It’s allowed.” I can hear her smile. “I like that word.”

“Permission?”

“Girlfriend.”

“Hmm.” I brush her hair away from her neck. “I like it too. I can’t believe I get to call you mine. My girlfriend. Your boyfriend. I’m enjoying these new titles a little too much.”

Even though I didn’t actually have the time last night to ask her officially, we seem to be on the same page. I was a little too preoccupied memorizing every curve to her body—I got a little off track. Whoops.

“Me too, but I’m starving. I hate to break up this sweet moment, but if we don’t eat soon, I’m going to get snippy.”

“Go sit down, baby. I’ll make us breakfast.”

I grab all the ingredients she mentioned, washing the strawberries and blueberries before I plop some Greek yogurt in two bowls. I stir the oatmeal; once it’s ready, I combine it all and set it in front of her.

“Thank you.”

“There’s more where that came from.” I slide onto the stool next to hers. “More mornings like this.”

“Music to my ears.” She takes a bite. “This is really good.”

“Glad you like it.” I grab her spoon, scooping a little bit of everything as I hold it out to her. I could spend all day doing this, but there’s something else we need to talk about this morning. “So you really wanna investigate your old house?”

Her eyes widen as soon as I bring the topic up. “I do. Are you coming around to the idea?”

“Slowly but surely, but I have some terms if we’re really going to do this.”

“Okay. What are they?” she wonders.

“We don’t go in by ourselves, and I want us to have a plan in case things get messy like they did last time.”

“Deal,” she agrees immediately. “Thank you for trusting me to do this.”

“I trust you, not the spirits we run into.” She only smirks at me, and I already know what she’s thinking. “Just don’t be upset if nothing happens or if we don’t hear him. Just because we’re not hearing him doesn’t mean he’s not talking.”

“I know. I’ll try not to get my hopes up. I’ll do some research on the house and its history, and maybe we can call Coop and Maven to go over the game plan?”

“That sounds perfect to me, but before we do that, I want to shower with my girlfriend.”

Another laugh that fills up the room. “Go start the shower while I finish breakfast.”

Best morning ever.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

I see Aubrey’s hand shaking as she sets up the small board in front of us. She’s trying her best to put on a brave face, but I can tell she’s nervous.

Shit, I’m nervous too. I don’t want any of us to get hurt, but with all the research Aubrey has done on her childhood home, I can’t help but feel like we’re walking into something we don’t know the full extent of.

“Thank you all for coming and agreeing to help Dean and I out on this investigation.”

“You know I’d do anything for you, Aubs.” Maven smiles.
