“Seems like you have first-hand knowledge. Are you finally going to talk about Trevor?”

“We aren’t talking about me. We are focused on you. Don’t wait too long.”

“Okay, I love and miss you, J.”

I can feel her smile over the phone. “Love and miss you too, J.” We hang up, and I feel a little bit lighter.

Downing the rest of my drink, I head over to the front desk, itching to get in bed with Caleb and cuddle. Through this experience, I realized I’m a cuddler. Or at least I am with him.

“Hi, I’m hoping to get my room key.”

“What name is it under?”

“Caleb Cross.”

She looks up at me with a ‘are you being serious right now’ face. “Ma’am, we do not give away players' room keys. Especially to groupies.”

“I’m his girlfriend. I want to surprise him,” I reply drily, pulling out my phone to show my wallpaper of the both of us during his away game last year in New Orleans.

It was Halloween weekend. We had an absolute blast, despite not drinking since he doesn’t do it during the season.

She presses her lips together. “Again, I cannot give away keys to a groupie. Photoshop exists.”

Do I understand her reluctance? Yes. I’m glad she is careful when it comes to their safety. But damn it. I want to go lay down on that bed and get under that weighted hotel comforter.

I wonder if they will notice if I steal it.

Probably.

“Can you call his room?” I ask.

“No.”

“Fine,” I huff out and pull out my phone to call Caleb myself. It doesn’t even ring before going to voicemail. His phone is probably dead.

Useless.

I try Trevor next, and he answers on the second ring. See, that’s what I like. A man that keeps his electronics charged.

“Hey, Josie,” he answers, his voice sounding drained. It was a rough game; I don’t blame him.

“I’m at the hotel trying to get the room key or at least the room number for Caleb. I wanted to surprise him.”

I hear him shuffling around. “No worries. I’ll come down.”

Three minutes go by, and I see Trevor step out of the elevator wearing his team’s hoodie and sweatpants.

I scan my room key, then quietly open the door and walk into his hotel room.

Thank goodness she believed me once Trevor walked up and gave me a hug. He explained the situation, and she got me a key without any further questions.

The kitchen is the first thing I walk past as I make my way to the living. Wow. This is a huge hotel room. It could almost be mistaken as an apartment with unique and classy decorations.

Continuing my journey, the glow from the city lights my way to the closed bedroom door. The sound of voices makes me pause and press my ear against the door.

Is someone in there with him?
