I do a slow clap. “Wow. I didn’t know you were a seer. I’m writing about one in my book, would you be interested in an interview?”
“You can’t be trusted. You obviously are a liar and play the long game. You probably told Caleb to leave me.” Ah, that’s why she’s angry. The plot thickens. It’s only right I add to the story.
I tilt my head in fake confusion. “I can’t seem to understand why you are worried about Caleb when you are in a literal relationship.”
She stomps towards me, getting way too close for comfort. “You only have all that mouth on you now because you’re dating Caleb. But who were you before you started dating him?”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Allow me to properly introduce myself. I’m Josephine Jenkins. An international best-selling author that has made multiple six-figure deals. Also known as that bitch.” I size her up with a grin. “And you are? Oh, my bad. You're Michael’s girl. Nothing wrong with that. I support women's rights and wrongs.”
“Fuck you!” she yells.
I nod. “People usually respond with profanity when they know they lost the argument. Yelling doesn’t make you right. It just makes you look…pathetic.”
Before I even realize what is happening, she throws her drink at me, glass and all, soaking my face and shirt. The cup hits me on the lip, causing a sharp pain.
I take a deep breath and debate the best course of action. I should just walk out. It’s not in my nature to fight. I’ve never even been in a fight. Plus, I just got my nails done, and I really like them. She’s such a nuisance.
But as if someone is possessing me, my hand swings out and hits her across the face. Her head swings to the side at the impact of my hand. She holds her face and looks at me with shock. I look at my palm with wide eyes.
Shit.
This is not the type of issue Caleb needs right now. But she started it. I just so happen to be great at ending stories.
Except, her face morphs in complete rage, and she launches herself at me. We roll around on the ground until we are pulled apart by two guards.
“You better watch yourself, you lying whore!” she screams as she is pulled into a different room.
“Back at yah!” I yell back before I am also pulled into a room. The door shuts, and the person holding onto me lets go.
“What did I tell you?” The voice belongs to the security guard Lucas.
I turn to look at him with a smile. “Yeah, yeah. She’s fucking crazy. Why is she blaming me for Caleb ending shit with her? They weren’t even dating.”
He shrugs. “I don’t try to understand women.”
“Are you married?”
“Yes,” he replies vaguely.
“Do you understand your wife?” I tease.
“No. But I do understand my husband.”
“Is your husband as hot as you?” Lucas is a tall and extremely fit-looking man. I don’t think there is a single piece of fat on him. Probably a big reason why people stop fussing when he has to break up fights. He looks dangerous.
His green eyes light up and he smiles. “Hotter.”
I wait a beat before asking, “Can I see pics?”
He laughs and proceeds to show me pictures of his husband. We spend the rest of the time talking and watching the game on the TV. I am too drained from my recent interactions to go back to the stands. Plus, I don’t want to explain my appearance to my parents.
I just text them saying I’ll see them later since they usually leave immediately after the game.
I start to get drowsy and drift to sleep, feeling Lucas covering me with a blanket and then hearing the door open and close.
