The Grim Reaper’s Lawyer

He sighs. “I was furious.”

“At me?”

“No. At the fact that I almost lost you again. I didn’t even think of the soul ties. If it wasn’t for your father, you would’ve disappeared again. Joy, I wouldn’t have been able to make it a second time.” He shakes his head. “Don’t ever risk yourself like that again.”

“I’m here now. I’m not going anywhere.” I peck his lips. “Haven’t you heard? I’m no longer just the Grim Reaper’s lawyer. I’m a reaper myself,” I joke.

“You’re the sexiest reaper I’ve seen,” he teases, rubbing his hand up and down my back.

I scoff. “Not if Beyoncé becomes one.”

“You’ve never spoken truer words.”

I pinch him hard on his arm.

“Ow! It’s Beyoncé! What do you expect?”

I purse my lips then smile. “You’re right.” Who can top the queen? Certainly, not me.

I can’t believe we really tied our souls together. This is not something I ever imagined doing when I first heard of the concept. But here we are. Together. Forever. But I’m worried about whether he feels the same. I’m also concerned about—

“I can feel your worry through the bond. What’s wrong?” he questions.

I bite my lip. “The last couple that tied their souls ended up reincarnating. Then, they went to Heaven when they died again. What if they hate each other? What if we grow to hate each other. What if we decide to break up? Can we even do that? We can feel each other through the bonds. I’ll feel if you have sex with someone else. You’ll feel if I—"

“You’re done talking. We are not having sex with other people. You are mine, Joyce Parker, and I am yours.”

“We haven’t even known each other that long and now it’s me and you. Forever. What if we choose to reincarnate?”

“Time is irrelevant. There’s no time frame for falling in love. It can be at first sight or fifty years from now. The beautiful thing about love is how it transcends time. People find each other over and over again in different lifetimes. I wouldn’t be surprised if I knew you in my previous life before I became Aiden.” He places a hand on my cheek. “My point is—I love you. You love me. Nothing else should matter.”

“You always have a way of calming me down,” I admit. He always says the right thing, despite it being harsh sometimes. But tough love is needed at times.

He nods. “Someone has to be the reasonable one in this relationship.”

I gasp, knowing very well I am not the most reasonable person. “I’m very reasonable. I’m a lawyer.”

I think I lost all reasonable behavior in law school. You would think I would have left law school with more sense. However, I left with fewer brain cells.

He gives me a look. “Keep telling yourself that.”

“You’re annoying.”

He rolls on top of me and leans down until his lips are almost touching mine. “Well baby, you’re stuck with me.”

I smile. “There is no place I would rather be stuck.”

“Aren’t you glad I sent you to Hell?”

I narrow my eyes. “I’ve gone to Hell two times now because of you.” That was two times more than I ever thought I would be in Hell.

He chuckles lightly. “Hopefully, there won’t be a third.”

I laugh. “Buddy, if there is, you are on your own,” I lie, knowing I’ll go wherever he is.

His face turns serious as he stares deeply into my eyes. “Thank you.”

I scrunch my brows. “For what?”
