The Grim Reaper’s Lawyer

A slow grin spreads across his face. “I love you more,” he replies.

“What should we do now?” I ask, glancing around the room.

“Let’s go explore New York,” he suggests.

I grin wide.

His eyes darken as he stares at my lips. “Before we do that, I think you owe me again.”

I blink in surprise. “For what?”

His hands move down my body then under my robe. “For saving you once again.”

My eyes narrow. “I saved you first by pushing you out the way.”

He caresses his lips against mine then whispers, “Then I owe you, too.” His fingers tunnel between my legs then dip inside. I gasp.

“Time to pay up,” he whispers.

Aiden pauses. Then blinks. He looks at me. Blinks again. “Are you whoring me out for a slice of pizza?”

“Babe, of course not. You are worth so much more.” I pat his shoulder. “I’m whoring you out for two slices of pizza. You have to eat, too.”

We can’t use Eden’s cards, because the reapers who attacked us might trace them back to us. He had some cash that he usually uses to leave tips, which he used to pay for the hotel and meal earlier. We have to budget the money to last us until we come up with a plan. But, it’s late at night now and I’m hungry. Aiden might as well use his good looks and charm to flirt with the girl.

We spent all day walking around New York and taking the train. He didn’t want to teleport since we are not sure if the reapers could find us that way. My favorite part was the super cheap boat ride we took to see the Statue of Liberty, and the well-known bridges.

Aiden looks at me with disappointment all over his face. “I expected more from you.”

“Really?” My tone is dry.

He tilts his head in thought for a moment. “Actually, no. I know you would sell me for unlimited mimosas right now if you could.”

I shrug. “I plead the fifth.” Because I totally would. Someone has to have their priorities straight.

“You can’t plead the fifth outside the courtroom.”

I shrug again. “I just did. Plus, I know the law better than you.”

He places a finger through one of the belt loops in my jeans and pulls me in close. He leans down until his mouth is by my ear.

He whispers, “Oh yeah? Let’s see if you have all that attitude later, Ms. Lawyer.” He leans back to look at me. I bite my lip and he grins. He taps my ass twice before walking into the pizza shop. I stare at his immaculate ass. Hate to see you go, but I love—

I don't get a chance to finish my thought. A hand grabs me from behind, covers my mouth and teleports us to an empty alleyway. I elbow the assailant in the stomach and spin around to face Mac, the reaper who helped Aiden and I sneak into Heaven.

“You’re in danger,” he stresses. He’s late to the party.

I let out a breath of relief that it’s him and give him a look. “No, shit Sherlock. Why do you think I’m in New York?”

He chuckles nervously. “I know but—”

“Joy!” I hear Aiden’s panicked voice. I open my mouth to call out to him, but Mac covers my mouth. Confused, I try to remove his hand, but feel a sharp pinch in my neck. In the next moment, he teleports us to a different location.

I rip myself away from him. “What the hell was that?” I demand. Mac lifts his hand to reveal a needle with a blue substance in it.

“Can’t have you getting away. This serum neutralizes reapers' abilities for at least an hour.”
