Dick had better not send me a virus.
Hayes glances over my shoulder. “Can we trust him?”
“Probably.”
“Probably?”
I shrug. “Gabe is technically a part of the Scipione family. Technically. But after what they did to him, he’s been looking for a way of screwing them over.”
The computer works under the burning heat, and I slip the phone from my pocket before I realize what I’m doing. No. No. This is a little too much. I don’t need to check on her now—not in front of these two.
Hayes might kill me.
“What did you do to help him?” Killian asks, tossing the spent butt.
Scratching my jaw, I exhale loudly. “He needed names and wasn’t getting anywhere in the family. I was able to provide them to him. Hence, a favor.”
“Names, for what?” Hayes fixes his hair, throwing it back on top of his head. “I assume it had to be top secret if he couldn’t access it through the family.”
Killian stares at me, and I look away. He sees far more than I ever want him to. It’s eerie.
“It was a hit.”
“Technically,” I admit. “He wanted names for the men who took something from him.”
“What?”
I ignore Hayes’s question and type into my laptop. There are files to decode, and a marriage contract I’m dying to read through. What are the parameters Gabe mentioned?
Why do I care?
Because she’s fucking mine. She could be promised to a king, and yet, she would still belong to me.
“Someone he loved,” Killian murmurs, smirking. “He wanted revenge.”
I say nothing, letting the men mull it over. Gabe came to me with a problem, and I offered to help. The blood doesn’t stain my hands—they had it coming.
I hit one final key, and the files expand over the screen. Dozens of digital papers, pictures, and routes. All of it for us to peruse.
Damn, Gabe. He swung hard for us.
“Check the exchanges.”
I nod at Killian’s demand and hunt through the records. There are various correspondences, emails, and comments about payment.
That’s it.
“Marco is financing Roman,” I explain, turning the screen, brow furrowed. “All the exchanges are laid out in terms. Marco is backing the shipments, paying the fees and the bribes. Roman is benefiting from it.”
“Is he broke?” Hayes looks at the computer, brow furrowed. “Why else have Marco pay for everything?”
“He shouldn’t be,” Killian mutters. “He rakes in revenue from his various clubs. Where’s it all going?”
Hayes cuts him a tight smile. “We are cutting into his territory.”
O’Brien is taking over Bruno’s stronghold. It makes us all a little giddy.
Pulling up a few documents, I say, “Huh. That’s weird.”
