Why? Just because she had a half-naked man standing all sweaty and delicious in her hallway, and she was dressed just in a towel?
What did that prove? There was really no reason to go around calling someone a slut. And so what if she was sleeping with Ammo? They would have been at the funeral yesterday. There’s no way they could have missed how many women claimed to have slept with Charlie.
If anyone was a slut around here, it was him.
She was tired of how everyone took Charlie’s side.
Yeah, she’d definitely had enough.
“I’m going to go give those old biddies a piece of my mind,” she said, storming toward the door. Ammo grabbed her around the waist. Unfortunately, it dislodged the towel that she had wrapped precariously around her and it slid to the floor. Right as another knock came on the door.
“Let go of me,” she said as she tried to reach for the towel. He snatched his arm back as though it had been burned.
Yet more proof that he really wasn’t into touching her.
She pushed down her sadness at that realization and picked up the towel before opening the door with a bang.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing coming here and calling me a slut, you old bitch?” she snarled.
But then she realized that it wasn’t the old biddies brigade standing there, but Lee Nelson.
His mouth dropped open as he took her in, and she glanced down at herself. Shit. She only had the towel resting up against her body. It wasn’t even wrapped around her properly. If she moved the wrong way, she’d be completely flashing him.
So she did the only thing she could think of. She jumped behind Ammo’s wide body and quickly fixed her towel.
“Aimee, I’m—” Lee started to say.
“No,” Ammo interrupted, before he slammed the door shut.
There was more knocking. “Wait, I was talking to Aimee. I want to ask her out.”
“No,” Ammo yelled back. “And tell all your little friends that if any of them step foot on this porch with flowers, chocolates, or offers of dates, then I’m going to throw them off this property myself.”
There was a beat of silence.
“No need to get violent, man,” Lee said before they heard him shuffle away.
She stood there, heaving for breath, unable to comprehend everything that had happened to her this morning. She hadn’t even had breakfast yet. She wasn’t even dressed, and already she’d had a near accident in the shower, been rescued by a gorgeous man, been called a slut, and then asked on a date.
It was just too much. How was one person meant to take all of this?
“Are you all right?” Ammo asked, sounding concerned.
“I just can’t take anymore,” she told him. “I’m gonna go back to bed. Maybe things will be better when I wake up later.”
Ammo stared after her with a frown. He didn’t like the defeated tone in her voice.
His hands clenched into fists. He was used to being able to solve problems, but it seemed that the only way to improve things for Aimee was to get her out of here. The sooner, the better.
But he was definitely taking note of each and every person that upset her. He was going to make sure they paid in some way, although it was getting to be a long list, and some of them he didn’t even have names for.
How the hell was he going to get revenge on a few women that looked to be in their eighties?
With a sigh, he turned back to the bathroom to fix the shower head.
Perhaps he should go talk to Aimee, say something to cheer her up, but he had no idea what would make her feel better after the complete disaster of the last few days.
After fixing the shower, he moved into the kitchen and made them both some breakfast. Going to her bedroom door, he knocked.
