“Where do they live?” Zander asked.
He glanced at the email, then let out a sigh. “Greasy Knob, Arkansas.”
Why did Arkansas have such a selection of weird town names?
Honey snorted, Keira smiled, and even Webb looked amused.
Shocker.
“It’ll take me about twelve hours to drive there, so I’ll leave after breakfast, drive through, then go see the family tomorrow.”
Zander frowned. “Not sure I like the idea of you going alone.”
Zander preferred them to work in pairs. But it wasn’t like this was a job. It was going to be a simple in and out. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be there more than a few days, long enough to check on the widow and go to the funeral. He’d pay his respects to Charlie, then be home by Monday.
“I’ll be fine,” Ammo said. “What sort of trouble can I get up to in a place called Greasy Knob?”
“Plenty, I’d say,” Honey said with a wink. “If you play your cards right.”
Eli walked into the dine-in kitchen with a pile of mail in his hands. He must have checked their post office box. They didn’t get mail directly here at the compound.
Too dangerous.
They didn’t even get their mail sent to the closest town. Instead, it was sent to a place several hours away, then redirected to one about forty minutes away.
Zander was very big on security.
Eli placed a letter in front of Ammo, and he eyed it with interest. He very rarely got mail. Who the hell would send him something? He didn’t even get sent bills, since he didn’t owe money on anything, and he lived here for free as a bonus on top of his salary.
Well, maybe it was penance for his sins. He wasn’t quite sure which.
“All right, but I want you to keep in daily contact,” Zander told him. “And if the widow needs something, we can help out with that. What’s her name again?”
“Aimee,” Ammo said. He couldn’t remember a lot about her except that Charlie had said that she was a bit of a snob.
He opened the envelope in his hand and stared down at it.
Ammo knew that his face didn’t change expression, and everyone around him was too busy checking their own mail to pay any attention, anyway.
Which was just as well, because he really didn’t want to show them this letter. It would turn into a big deal, and he didn’t have time in his life for that.
There were only five words which had been cut out of a magazine and pasted on the piece of paper.
You are going to die
And this is why he fucking hated people.

This town was a fucking weird one.
Although considering it was called Greasy Knob he didn’t know what he’d expected.
It was actually far prettier than he’d thought it would be with old quaint buildings lining a wide street. Everyone seemed to know everyone else. They all stopped to chat and talk, or to stare at him.
Which was his idea of a complete nightmare.
Ammo was used to people staring. He was a big guy, and he looked rough and scary. He got it. That’s why he preferred to stay away from people.
