Why was she thinking about babies right now? She was supposed to be getting rid of him. God, she felt like she was going to vomit. She placed her hand on her stomach.
“Yes, I think it’s time that you left. Staying will be pointless, and all it does is cause pain. So yes, you should just go.”
You should just go.
Being around you is torture.
It’s hard on me.
The words raced around and around his brain as he pushed himself harder and harder on his run.
Was she really serious? She was trying to tell him to leave? That he should go because things were better now? What did that mean? That she didn’t want him around anymore?
Except the way she’d said it . . . as though he was hurting her by being here.
Because she wanted him.
He paused for a breather and realized he’d been sprinting.
Right, that part hadn’t really filtered through his brain until now. All he’d felt was rejection, and Ammo wasn’t used to being rejected.
Well, you were rejected by your parents, weren’t you?
They didn’t want you. Never spent time with you.
Fuck. He could remember asking them several times if he could go with them on one of their many trips and they would always turn him down. Would barely look at him.
Was that why he’d stormed out of the house forty minutes ago to go for a run? Instead of staying and talking to her. Fuck. He’d noticed the look of hurt on her face when he’d left. However, at the time he’d been too caught up by his own pain to care.
He hated hurting her.
She hadn’t worried about hurting him, though.
Only . . . he had told her that he didn’t have emotions. Right? And that he couldn’t be her Daddy. That he didn’t do relationships.
So, of course she hadn’t known that he’d react so badly.
Because he wasn’t supposed to be this emotional.
Dumb bastard.
Being around her was definitely bringing up emotions and feelings. The fact that he’d immediately felt this level of anger and rejection was proof of his feelings toward her. And possibly toward his parents and their relationship.
No. Fuck.
He wasn’t doing this. He wasn’t going to go into the past and explore his feelings toward his parents.
He was going to stay in the here and now and fix his relationship with her.
Because that was what was important right now.
Aimee.
Instead of storming out of the house he should have told her how he felt about her. Because that was the main issue, wasn’t it?
She thought her feelings for him weren’t returned, and now he understood why she’d told him to leave.
It wasn’t because she didn’t want him. It was basically because she wanted him too much.
