Her features twisted more. “What I wouldn’t give to know what you’re thinking right now.”
“You don’t want to know what I’m thinkin’, Elena, I promise you that.”
Her knowing would be disastrous. Equivalent to standing at the front of a firing squad, arms raised out to the sides and insulting the bastard holding a machine gun.
Asking for annihilation.
Because I was pretty sure it’d only take an ember for us to combust.
She huffed. “You sure about that?”
The problem was, she wasn’t jesting. Everything about her was written like a personalized invitation. Asking me to give. To share and show. Cut myself wide open the way I hungered to do.
I was quick to change the subject. “You need help with anything else before I call it?”
She let go of a small laugh. “Since you just worked my kitchen over like you’re Mr. Clean, I can’t think of anything else.”
I’d like to work something else over.
“Impressed, yeah?”
“Oh yeah. Definitely. Turns out this impressed thing is a two-way street.”
She wandered to the fridge, yanked it open, and reemerged with a pie dish covered in foil.
My mouth watered. “Where’d that come from?”
“I couldn’t sleep the night before we moved, excitement and nerves,” she clarified, “so I figured I’d get up and do something useful.”
She lifted it toward me. “Sorry, but we’re going to have to mess your kitchen up a little again because this baby right here is calling my name.”
She set it onto the counter and pulled off the foil.
It was the same lattice apple pie she’d learned to make with Meems when she was just a little girl.
“No problem.” I had to force it out.
Elena dug into the drawer in search of a fork. She waved it in front of me like she was trying to entrance me.
Already done.
“Do you want to partake?” she asked, already knowing I couldn’t resist.
“You know that I do.” The words scraped with the rumble of an oncoming train.
She drove the fork directly into the pie and brought it to her mouth.
She moaned as she wrapped her lips around the morsel.
My reckless dick kicked.
Fuck.
“So good,” she garbled around the bite. “I truly did learn from the best. I mean, it’s not quite as good as Meems’, but I do have to say, this is pretty danged amazing.”
“I’m sure it’s more than amazing.”
“You haven’t even tried it yet.”
