Carved in the Shadows

I gripped onto the steering wheel to stop myself from doing something reckless like gripping onto his shirt and demanding that he kiss me.

But reckless seemed like a pretty decent plan right about then. Tossing myself over a line that was feeling less and less delineated with each day that passed.

I’d learned taking chances, demanding what I needed for myself, was the only way I really would gain what I longed for.

In this world, we had to make it happen for ourselves.

I guess it was the fear of losing what I did share with Trevan that stopped me.

Trevan pulled away. A cross between something smug and pained was scored on his face.

And I wondered if it was that same fear that was stopping him, too.

THIRTY-THREE

TREVAN

I didn’t know what aching really was until I sat in the passenger seat of Elena’s truck and watched her drive down the road.

Window barely rolled down and wisps of that black hair lashing around her stunning face. Woman wearing that outfit that had damned near made me come out of my skin this morning when I first saw her in it.

Shortest damned skirt I’d ever seen.

Bare, tempting legs.

Paired with a fitted white tee that hugged her slight curves and a glittery apple right between her tits.

A fucking bullseye that would win me the illicit prize.

The Docs were just the icing on a torturous, excruciating cake.

Making her appear innocent and cute and sexy as all hell.

A fantasy that was getting harder and harder to shun. An endless circuit playing through my brain now that I was with her twenty-four seven.

It’d been easier to bat it back into submission when I wasn’t face to face with her constantly.

When I couldn’t hear her under the pounding fall of the shower in her bathroom and knocking around in her bedroom while she was getting dressed.

When I wasn’t curled up with her on her bed like that was where I was meant to be.

When I wasn’t locked away at her store as she raced toward her dream day after day.

Now, my tongue salivated as I glanced over at her.

Dainty hands on the steering wheel, skirt bunched up high on her delicious thighs as she shifted from the accelerator to the brake.

Girl a sweet little badass who was doing stupid, stupid things to my psyche.

That’s right.

I was just over here angling toward a death wish and thinking that penalty might not be too great to pay if it meant I got to touch her once.

Heaven right before Silas dispatched me to Hell.

Exactly where I belonged.

The engine whined as she slowed, and she took the left into her apartment’s parking lot.
