Asking him to hold his secret.
Christina came rushing in. Her hair was up in curlers the way it always was before she went in for a shift at the steakhouse.
She sat down at the head of the table on the other side of Brody, and Meems took the opposite end.
“What are we talking about?” Christina asked with her adoring grin.
“Pretty much that we got the best family,” Elena peeped.
Christina’s smile was soft as she picked up her fork. “That’s right, we do.”
And Trevan again itched to flee, all while the only thing in the world he wanted to do was stay.
TWENTY-SIX
TREVAN
“I call to order this meeting of Crimson Crows.” Silas rumbled it like the king that he was.
He sat in his massive, carved wooden chair that rose high above his head, staring down the long length of the rustic table.
I was in my earned spot to his right, Phoenix on the other side.
Dusky light flickered from the single chandelier that hung from the cavernous ceiling, a dim illumination that crawled over the vicious faces of the Crows sitting farther down the table.
Only the MC’s highest-ranking men were in attendance.
The bare radiance crept through the room like vapor, revealing the walls and ceiling painted with those grim, morbid images that had been drawn by Phoenix.
Our Madman who flexed a single hand into a fist on the tabletop across from me.
Rage forever simmered inside of him. At the ready to be discharged on the next unfortunate motherfucker who’d given his life over to wickedness.
He was the most brutal of us all, though I wasn’t feeling so benevolent right then.
You’d think after last night, the ruthlessness would have been quenched, but that volatile energy still thrummed in the air. Anxious over the results.
The truth that it never would end.
It seemed when we decimated one cell, it populated fifteen others.
A round of “Ayes” went up from the Crows.
Silas looked around, pointed.
“Last night’s raid was a success. Fifteen men and we were able to pilfer close to four million dollars before the accounts were seized.”
“Fuck yeah.” Regan slammed his fist onto the table. His eyes were still wild from the kill, red hair a fucking mess. “Honestly wish we could have kept that prick alive a little longer so he could watch all his riches being drained away.”
Dude was in his mid-forties and honestly kind of terrifying.
“Brinley has distributed it to about fifteen different organizations that were in dire need. All anonymous donations, of course.” Silas smirked.
“Any sign of loose threads?” My voice was shallow.
“We have confirmation all ranking members have been felled.”
We couldn’t leave anyone standing who might rise up to take the bastard’s place.
