“Anything that has to do with this account you route through me before anyone contacts Marwood.”
I stared at him. “That is not my team handling it directly. This is your team—”
“I said through me,” he replied. “Not my team.”
“That distinction is supposed to comfort me?”
“No. But this should.”
His lips slammed into mine and any discussion we could have had was thrown out the window. For one wild second, I didn’t react because I was in shock, but I quickly caught up to what was going on. His hands were everywhere and there were no complaints from me in that department.
The kiss was hard at first, as if his lips touching mine was the only thing that would bring him salvation. One hand slid along my jaw while the other braced on the desk beside me, trapping me to the surface. I grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him closer because my body felt as if there shouldn’t be any space between us.
This man was an addiction I didn’t need but something I so desperately craved. When he groaned in response, I knew I was done for. His hand slid from my jaw to the back of my neck. His fingers shifted my head with just enough pressure to angle it the way he wanted it. The other hand swept the tablet farther across the desk without looking, making room for my hips against the edge of the wood.
I broke the kiss only because breathing had become an annoying requirement. “You interrupted a strategic important discussion. One that I thought we were getting along pretty well during, I might add.”
“I know.”
“That wasn’t permission to end it.”
“No.” His mouth brushed mine again, slower this time. “It was permission to pause.”
“You don’t get to decide that.”
His hand came to a halt at my neck. “You’re right,” he said.
That should have been the opening I needed to end this whole thing, but the problem was I didn’t want to end it. As Cain stared into my eyes, I sensed that he knew I didn’t want to end it either.
“You’re enjoying this,” I said.
His eyes held mine. “Watching you work?”
“No.” My fingers were still curled in his shirt. I should have let go, but I didn’t. “Watching me forget all the reasons I should hate you.”
“You haven’t forgotten them.”
“No,” I said. “Unfortunately, my memory remains excellent.”
His thumb moved once against the side of my neck. “Wrap your legs around my waist. Now.”
I should have objected on principle. He had some nerve telling me what to do in general and after all of this. I would have been well within my rights to tell him to fuck all the way off.
Instead, my legs moved. I ended up sitting down on the desk and opening my legs. I gave him plenty of room to step into position. What I noticed immediately is how hard he was and how it felt rubbing up against me through the fabric of his slacks.
The contact sent heat straight through me and I know that fact was written all over my face. I found Cain watching me intensely and that came as no surprise. However, what did was the fact that I was up in the air and my legs immediately locked around his hips. He carried me as if I weighed nothing, which would have annoyed me if my mouth hadn’t found a place to kiss and lock on his neck. The desk pressed briefly against the backs of my thighs before he shifted me away from it.
I expected him to put me back on the desk. Instead, he turned toward the door. My mouth broke from his. “Where are we going?”
“My bedroom.”
The words hit harder than they should have. But there was still no fuck for me to find. The only thing I wanted to find out was how hard he could make me cum. Apparently, that was where my dignity had gone to die.
And that seemed to be completely fine with me.
