He laughs. “Come here.”
I cross the room, still wrapped in my towel.
He pulls me against him and kisses my forehead. “You like it?”
I glance around. The flowers. The candles. The champagne. The man standing in front of me. “I love it.”
He smiles. “Good.”
Then he reaches for the champagne. The cork comes free with a soft pop, and he pours us each a glass.
I take mine. “To what?”
He thinks for a second. “To our first Valentine's Day.”
I smile. “First of many?”
He touches his glass to mine. “Every damn one, Becks.”
I take a sip. The champagne is cold and crisp, the bubbles tickling my nose.
Bishop sets his glass down and reaches for one of the small boxes on the bed. “Got you something.”
I look at him. “Bish, you already did all this.”
“I know.”
“You didn't have to buy me anything.”
“Pretty sure that's not how Valentine's Day works.”
I laugh.
He hands me the box. It's small. Square. Wrapped in pale pink paper.
I carefully peel back the tape.
Inside is a velvet jewelry box. My stomach flips. “Bishop.”
“Open it.”
I lift the lid. And forget how to breathe. Nestled against the dark velvet is a pair of diamond stud earrings.
Simple.
Elegant.
Beautiful.
The kind of earrings I would have admired in a jewelry store window and immediately walked away from after seeing the price.
“Oh my God.”
He watches me. “Too much?”
I look up. “Hayes.”
“That's not an answer.”
