Jameson: Higher pressure would be unhinged. No one would try it.
Shay: That’s why you’ll win.
Jameson: It’d be twitchy as fuck.
Shay: So don’t twitch.
Jameson: You think I’m that good?
Shay: Don’t let it go to your head.
Jameson: Too late
Jameson: I’ll do it. If the modeling is solid we can run higher at Austin.
Shay: YESSSSS!!! OMG. Megan will freak out.
Jameson: But I need you on my side. Not Theo’s.
Shay: Okay…
Jameson: Say it.
Shay: I’m on your side.
Jameson: Good.
Shay: I’m running through the data again right now.
Jameson: It’s after midnight. Go to sleep.
Shay: I want to be sure.
Jameson: Townie. Get this through your pretty, stubborn head.
Shay: ??
Jameson: I won’t let you lose.

“Road trip!” Megan throws an arm around me and Raj as we meet in the boarding lounge at the Detroit airport. “What outfits did you bring?”
“Garage clothes. Going out clothes.” Zane ticks off his fingers.
“I was talking to Shay.” Megan rolls her eyes.
“Why? She only has one bag.” Raj nods to me.
I’ve never been to Austin before, but in an hour, we’ll be heading for the Circuit of the Americas, where the first leg of the Challenger Championship will be held. Seeing racing on TV is nothing like seeing it in person, and I’m buzzing with anticipation. This is the first chance for us, and the drivers, to show what we can do.
We turned in our final adjustments for the race car yesterday. It was both nerve-racking and exciting. Figuring out the tuning required studying Jameson’s driving for way too many hours. The way he handles the car, how flawlessly he executes.
