I’m going to fucking kill him if he touches her again.
“Lacey is here.”
I stifle a groan, immediately searching for her in the crowded room, spotting her near the open patio doors. Her hair is pulled into a low bun at the nape of her neck, a crimson dress clinging to her body, her hand wrapped around a champagne flute, and that fucking family ring Heath gifted her a while ago glinting on her finger, marking her as someone whose soon to be a part of the family. At least that’s what Heath seems to think, no matter how many times I told him I’m not marrying her. That ring just feeds into the fantasies she pants about when I’m fucking her.
A shiver runs over my arms as I find Jordie again.
“I’m not interested.” I keep my tone even, though all I want to do is throttle everyone in this fucking room and take Jordie away from them all so we can forget any of this ever happened.
They’re surrounding her like she’s the second coming of Jesus.
Of course, she is to me. I was just starting to lose hope of seeing her again.
“What kind of show do you think you’re putting on?” he asks.
In that moment, Jordie’s eyes land on Lacey for a split second, and her face morphs into something else entirely as she rips her attention away from her, body tensing anew. I’m sure if someone tried to snap Jordie in half, she’d crack like a piece of stiff wood.
“Kain—”
“Are we done here?” I snap.
“Go and talk to your future fiancé.”
I huff a bitter laugh. “If you want to marry her, be my guest.”
There’s a long pause before he speaks. “She’s too young for me.”
“Didn’t stop Heath from marrying our mother.” The gold cross burns at my chest—the only piece of my mother I have. I don’t even think I’ve ever seen a picture of her. I wonder if she would’ve been the same as them. “You’re exactly the same as Father,” I add, just to rub salt into the wound I already know is open.
Dorrian freezes and then his jaw ticks.
No response for a few seconds.
“I’m just trying to do what’s best for you.”
Against my feelings, my heart squeezes at his bullshit statement all the same.
“Save it.” I huff.
Lacey spots me and perks up, turning towards me before swaying her hips as she makes her way over. My frame stiffens as she approaches and places a hand on my knee. She practically shoves her breasts into my face, making me whip my head to the side.
“Kain,” she purrs, the alcohol on her breath hitting me as I glue my gaze to the lit fireplace in the centre of the wall. “Hey,” she coos, her finger guiding my face to look at her. Her drunken blue eyes slither over my face and linger on my lips.
My vision is going dark. I taste alcohol on my tongue as Lacey’s lips connect with mine. I have no strength to push her off.
My feet shift uncomfortably, toes vigorously wiggling in my shoes as I attempt to find Jordie, but Lacey is blocking my entire view of the room.
“Kain, look at me,” she slurs, her hand dropping down to my chest and I close my eyes, swallowing the dryness in my throat.
Her hand travels down my numb torso and rips my belt off when she reaches it.
When I don’t answer her, she crashes onto my lap and grips my face—her long nails digging into my cheekbones as my stomach tightens. “Leave me alone, Lacey.” Risky. But she’s too drunk to tell anyone. Too drunk to remember it in the morning and withhold my weed.
Lacey’s tongue wets my dick as I attempt to locate where my limbs are—
Why the fuck are those memories rising now of all times?
She jerks my head in her direction, her face inches away from mine. “I want to talk to you.” She plays with the collar of my shirt.
