Asoreness between my legs wakes me from my slumber.
The evidence of what transpired last night.
Will I ever get used to the size of him? To the roughness that he so deliciously delivers? I love it, but waking up sore every time… I don’t know if I fancy that.
The night weighs heavy on my mind.
I don’t remember the last time I properly slept since returning. And last night, out of all nights, was by far the worst. My sleep was sabotaged by the thoughts of Kain, and this damn town that seems to be hiding secrets I can’t get to the bottom of.
We shouldn’t have done what we did. I shouldn’t have allowed him to do it. I was caught up in the heat of lasting feelings for him that I just didn’t think straight. Add in being high to the mix and you have yourself a perfect potion for disaster. Which is exactly what last night was.
A disaster and a mistake.
Or is that just something you’re trying to convince yourself of?
“Fuck,” I mumble, burying myself under the covers.
Instead of making my life easier, I just made it even more complicated. It’s thrown me off the plan I had conjured up in my head while Kain so tentatively took care of me last night.
Kill Samuel.
Expose the Westbrooks.
Watch the town turn on them.
Run.
Four simple steps that have now been bulldozed by Kain. Once I run, that would be it. I can forget this town and everything that happened. Looking at him would just bring everything back and I don’t want to live like that. I would never see him again and, as much as I hate to admit it, I don’t think my heart could handle it.
A disaster and a mistake, I remind myself.
“Fuuuuuuuck,” I groan, flailing in bed.
A car horn sounds outside and for the first time since moving in, I peak through the curtains. It’s still storming outside, grey clouds giving the illusion of night even though it’s ten in the morning. Samuel is wearing a wide smile as he strolls over to Heath like he doesn’t have a care in the world and the pair of them shake hands before disappearing inside.
I can only hope they’ve ventured to Heath’s office and not into the kitchen. To set my plan in motion I need to go there, but I also need to try and avoid them at any cost. The current guard’s round is almost over, so I don’t have long to get ready to leave my room.
Rapidly getting dressed and opening my door, I take a glance at Kain’s closed door, and those damn claws start ripping at my heart. I keep my footsteps light as I navigate my way around the dark halls to the kitchen.
I make it to the kitchen unscathed—no staff in here. Perfect. I glance behind me to make sure no one has followed me in and step inside slowly.
“Came for breakfast?” Dorrian’s deep rumble shakes me, and I jump away from the noise, my back connecting with the marble of the large kitchen island. He’s sitting in the farthest corner of the room, shrouded in shadow at the small breakfast bar. His hands seem to be working on something, but I can’t make out what it is.
My heart pounds so hard I can’t catch my breath enough to get any words out. All I know is that stood in front of him, I feel a mix of rage and uncertainty.
I move in the direction of the fridge to make it look like I’m here for breakfast when I’m really not.
I’ve never been alone with Dorrian. My usual confidence around him evaporated into thin air. Slow scrapes fill the tense air between us, his hands matching the movement of the noise.
What is he doing?
“You can answer me,” he says.
Trying to keep him in my vision, my eyes search around the kitchen for anything sharp enough that could aid me tonight when I can finally move forward with my plan. I hit the fridge, making the contents rattle in the ominous silence.
“What, you suddenly forgot how to speak?”
Something clatters on the marble and he stops moving. He leans back in his chair and it groans under his weight.
