The response came so quickly that Dom had to have been staring at the screen.
Dom
Fuck you.
Gavin grinned, and the pull at his cheeks made him realize how long it had been since he’d done that. Apparently, all it took to turn him into a fool who smiled at his phone was four weeks of silence followed by being cussed at. He didn’t care if that was pathetic.
Gavin
You texted me.
Dom
I did.
And then nothing. Gavin waited, and it was almost a minute before the typing bubble appeared and disappeared twice. His phone stayed silent, and Gavin sighed before he started typing.
Gavin

This time the answer took longer.

Gavin’s smile faded and any warmth he’d felt a moment ago drained out of him. He lowered himself onto an overturned five-gallon bucket. Of course. He should have expected that. If Dom wanted to clear the air, Gavin would listen to whatever he needed to say. He could do that. He’d survived losing his business, his home, and his marriage. He could survive Dominic Rizzo kindly explaining that kissing him had been a mistake.
Again.
And if Dom wanted to figure out how they went back to being friends, Gavin wanted that too. Probably.
Eventually.
He stared at the screen.
Gavin
Okay.
A full minute passed before Dom’s response came.
Dom
That feels like it’s not okay…
Gavin
I don’t know how to say it differently.
Dom
