And whenever I do get a damn day off, it’s dedicated to getting this eight hundred square foot apartment back in shape before I start the process all over again. All so the lump of a man slowly becoming one with his fucking recliner has everything he needs to get through the day.
I’m over it.
So fucking over it.
“Hey,” I call, peeking out into the living room where Owen is still glued to the TV. “Do you think you could clean up a little bit around here today?”
The silence stretches between us and I arch a brow.
Hello?
He’s still staring at the TV like I never even spoke and he lifts the can of beer to his lips.
“Owen?”
I stare at his profile, screaming at him in my head to turn away from the goddamn screen and acknowledge me but he doesn’t move. He just sits there, like he’s in some kind of trance. A moth to a fucking flame.
Or a moth to a TV screen, anyway.
“Owen!”
His body jerks, surprised by my volume and curt tone, and he glances over his shoulder, meeting my gaze. “Huh?”
“Do you think you could clean up the apartment while I’m at work?” I ask, forcing a smile to my face.
“Uh,” he murmurs, turning back to the TV. “Yeah, sure.”
I turn to look around the kitchen as irritation claws at my chest. My eyes land on the glass cutting board leaning up against the wall. A smile spreads across my face as I imagine picking it up, marching into the living room and smashing it over his head.
Maybe that would get a fucking reaction out of him.
I let out a breath and shake my head.
No.
No murder.
I don’t have the time today.
I suck in a breath. “I’m really serious about this, Owen. I can’t keep doing all the housework on top pf putting in so many hours at work. I need your help.”
“Jesus Christ, woman,” he grumbles, once again not even bothering to glance in my direction. “I fucking said I’d do it so why don’t you get off my goddamn ass.”
Heat rushes through me.
Absolutely not.
“Oh,” I seethe, my hand twitching to pick up the cutting board. “I wish I could but apparently, if I’m not on your ass, all you do is sit around, drink beer and gorge yourself on frozen fucking pizza.”
I flick one of the empty pizza boxes to prove my point.
“I mean, when was the last time you even peeled yourself out of the damn recliner and took a shower?”
His eyes snap to mine, full of venom. “Shut up, you dumb cunt. This is what you were made for and put on this earth to do - take care of your man. Remember?”
Fuck him.
His vindictive smile makes my blood boil.
