But the girls are sitting pretty now and very secure.
She paired it with layered necklaces and bracelets as well as chunky black ankle boots and the whole look screams sexy.
“I love your hair like that, too.” I glance up at my face and smile. My hair is in loose waves, half of it tied back in a little bun at the crown of my head and Morgan insisted that tonight called for a smokey eye and dramatic liner.
I have to admit, I look damn good.
And I can’t wait to see Dalton’s face when he sees me at the club.
Will his jaw actually drop?
I fucking hope so.
“Okay, girl,” Morgan says, drawing my gaze to her in the mirror. She leans forward, a look I know all too well in her chocolate brown eyes. “Fucking spill.”
My brows furrow. “What?”
“When you got that phone call earlier, you had that same dreamy fucking smile on your face as you did just now and we aren’t leaving this apartment until I find out what it means.”
I glance back at my reflection as heat rushes to my cheeks. “Dalton, the guy who invited us out tonight… we kind of have a thing…”
“What?” she squeals, jumping up from the bed. Crossing the room in three long strides, she grips my shoulders and turns me around to face her. “What kind of thing?”
I shrug. “He helped me get the rest of my things from Owen’s apartment and then took me to dinner.”
“Oh my God,” she breathes, excitement shining in her eyes. “I can’t believe-”
“And then we had sex in a trailer at an underground fight he took me to,” I say, interrupting her and her eyes widen comically as a wide smile splits her face.
“Well, hot damn.” She shakes her head. “I know I told you to get out there and live your life, Len, but I didn’t think you’d grab the bull by the fucking horns.”
I laugh, toying with the hem of my dress. “It just kinda happened, Morgie.”
“Oh,” she whispers, studying my face. “Oh, babes. You really like him.”
I shake my head. “No, it’s just casual.”
“My ass, it’s fucking casual,” she says with a scoff. “I know you, girl. And I know that look on your face.”
“Morgan,” I sigh, turning back to the mirror to look at myself. “I don’t have anything to offer the man.”
Her eyes meet mine in the mirror and she looks at me like I’ve grown a second head. “You have you to offer him, Lenny. And that’s more than enough.”
Pinching my lips together, I drop my gaze and suck in a breath.
“I’m so burnt out from everything with Owen and working so much.” I fidget with my hair before dropping my hands to my sides. “I’m just not in a place for anything right now. I can’t take care of someone else or give more pieces of me away because there just isn’t any left.”
She rolls her eyes. “Okay, well that’s just not true, first of all. And secondly, is he asking you to?”
“I…” My mouth falls shut and I shake my head. “Well, no. But-”
With a sigh, Morgan turns me to face her again. “You didn’t have anything more to give to Owen, which is fucking fair cause that useless bastard tried to suck you dry but that doesn’t mean you don’t have anything left to give to anyone.”
I open my mouth to protest but she holds her finger up, silencing me.
“And I doubt the woman I’ve been spending all day with would seriously allow a man to come back in and take from her again so stop looking for a catastrophe where there isn’t one.”
Propping my hand on my hip, I try to speak again but she shakes her head.
