Almost is Never Enough

“There is no one else, Leigh-Ann,” I tell her, shaking my head as my fist clenches at my side. She shakes her head.

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not,” I tell her, hoping she’ll feel the gravity in my words because as far as Leigh-Ann is concerned, there is no one else. To even put Lennon on the same level as Leigh-Ann would be insulting to what Lennon and I shared last night.

It’s not even fucking close.

“If there really is no one else,” Leigh-Ann says, coming back to the fence and gripping the bars. “Then why won’t you give us a chance?”

Jesus fucking Christ.

How many times do I have to tell this woman that I don’t want her before she believes me?

I’ve tried going about this as kindly as I possibly can but my patience is hanging on by a goddamn thread.

“Because I don’t want one, Leigh-Ann.”

“Rooster,” she says, her eyes pleading with me to give in to her wishes. “Please.”

Nope.

I’m done.

“Good-bye, Leigh-Ann,” I say, turning away from the gate.

“Rooster,” she yells after me as I begin walking away. “Don’t do this. Please.”

“I’m sorry, ma’am,” Joe says. “You’ll have to leave.”

“Rooster,” she yells again but I ignore it. I’ve said all I can say to the woman, and if she refuses to see reason, I don’t know what the hell else I’m supposed to do. I can hear her yelling all the way back to the clubhouse but when I reach the front door and glance over my shoulder, Joe has already closed the privacy screen in front of the gate. I shake my head and release a breath.

“Resolved?” Storm asks as soon as I step inside and I run a hand through my hair.

“Kinda?” I glance back at the door. “She’s still out there screaming and hollering so maybe tell Joe if she doesn’t leave soon to call the cops and have her removed.”

Storm raises a brow. “What was the problem?”

“She doesn’t like hearing the word no,” I say, shaking my head. “Or maybe she just can’t accept it.”

“Hmm,” he hums, studying me. “She going to continue being a problem?”

I shake my head. “I don’t think so. She’s harmless.”

“Good.” He arches a brow and fights back a smirk. “Maybe stop causing so many problems with your dick.”

I bark out a laugh. “Yeah, I’ll work on that.”

He nods and heads back into his office.

Once he’s gone, I scan the clubhouse. Jumper and Gear are at the bar, nursing beers. My gaze jumps from them to the back door where the bag is waiting for him but I can’t force my feet to move.

I’m exhausted from beating the shit out of the bag for ninety minutes.

And even more so after dealing with Leigh-Ann.

With a sigh, I head over to the bar and grab a beer out of the fridge before popping the cap off and leaning back against the counter. As I raise the bottle to my lips, my thoughts go back to Lennon.

Our date at the taco truck last night.
