“No,” he snaps. “As far as I can tell, Derek is being a very boring boy. He goes to work and goes home. Probably sitting in there murdering small animals or something though.”
“Dude…”
“We should have put cameras in the house when we got Raya out. Then, I could really keep an eye on him.”
I chuckle. “Pretty sure that’s illegal.”
“Oh, yeah,” he grumbles. “‘Cause we never ever do illegal shit. All part of the job, asshole.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I suck in a breath. I can’t say I don’t understand how he’s feeling. “Just let me know if he changes up his routine at all.”
He sighs. “Yeah, I will. Anything else I can do for you?”
“Not at the moment.” I grin. “But I’ll let you know.”
“Fucker, I’m not at your beck and call, you know,” he snaps and I laugh as I hang up the phone and toss it back onto the seat next to me. He knows as well as I do that if we call, he’ll answer. Streak likes to joke and be a pain in the ass but he takes the club’s security and the safety of the women we help very seriously. We’re just lucky that his wife, Rowan, is so damn understanding.
Turning back to the bakery, my gaze locks onto Lennon immediately. She’s out in the dining room with a rag in her hand, dancing and singing with Mila in between wiping down tables.
I’m transfixed.
There is something so damn magnetic about her.
She turns and glances out the window, meeting my eyes across the street, through the window the truck. There’s a pause in her movements, she tips her head to the side and narrows her eyes but the smile stays on her face. Then, she shakes her head and goes back to her dancing.
Fuck me.
Im in so much trouble.
My phone buzzes on the seat next to me and I keep my gaze glued to Lennon as I reach over and grab it. Only when it’s in front of me, do I finally look away from her.
Leigh-Ann:
Hey, Roost. Can we talk?
Absolutely not.
I ignore the message and set the phone back down, scanning the street briefly before returning my attention to Lennon. But I can’t find her.
She must have gone back in the kitchen.
I let out a sigh and sink back into my seat.
Maybe I should go. She seems to be doing okay and Streak will keep an eye on the cameras but if Owen does show up, how the hell would I get here quick enough to help her?
My chest tightens again and I rub at the spot.
A buzzing sound fills the cab and I glance over to see another text waiting for me. If it’s Leigh-Ann again, I swear to God, I’m going to lose the last thread of my patience. I was very clear when I ended things with her so why the hell is she texting me now?
Unlocking the phone, I pause.
It’s not Leigh-Ann.
Lennon:
Why are you watching me?
I glance up and meet her eyes in the bakery’s window. She has her phone in her hand and she’s staring at me, waiting for my answer, one brow quirked up in question. I fight back a smile as I turn back to my phone and type out a response.
