I know how this will end if someone doesn’t step in and help her, keep her safe.
“I need you to get me whatever information you have for both of them.”
He nods and pulls a folded-up piece of paper out of his pocket, sliding it across the table. “I wrote down everything I know for you.”
Snatching it up, I open it and scan the information.

I look up at him, arching a brow. “How in the hell did you get all this info on the boyfriend?”
“I do my research,” he says with a shrug, one corner of his mouth tipping up despite the grim look in his eyes. I scoff.
Research, my ass.
“You called Streak, didn’t you?”
He leans back in his seat. “I was concerned and I needed something to give you to get you started.”
“You didn’t even know if I was going to agree to help,” I tell him and he arches a brow, pinning me with a look that I choose to ignore as I glance back down at the paper in my hand.
A couple things stand out to me. Lennon is working two jobs and given that Calvin has her managing the bakery, I have to imagine she’s putting in a massive amount of hours every week. The second thing is the disparity in their vehicles. Lennon drives a Jeep that cost her probably fifteen thousand max while Owen is in a thirty-thousand-dollar truck with no fucking job.
So, was Lennon funding their entire life?
Goddamn it.
This damn dinner was supposed to satisfy my curiosity.
But now I have more fucking questions than I started with.
“I assume by your unblinking focus on that paper that you’re going to handle this?” Calvin asks and I nod, folding the paper up and sipping it into my pocket.
“Yeah, I’ll look into it.”
Our food arrives before he can say anything else and as soon as the waitress leaves us to our meals, we move on to lighter topics, spending the rest of the dinner just catching up and swapping stories from the last few months. He tells me what else he’s been up to in his semi-retirement and I fill him in on some of the cases we’ve been working lately as well as Raya and Joey’s story.
