“There’s only one way to do that, babes.”

“And what is that?” I ask but knowing Morgan, I think I already know the answer.

“Go out and live your life. Go stick your feet in the ocean just cause you felt like it one day. Dye your hair purple if the mood strikes you on a random Tuesday. Drive to New York to stand in Times Square and feel small. Kiss a man just cause you think he’s hot and you want to. Anything you wake up one morning and think about doing, just go do it.”

“Hmm, maybe.”

She grunts. “No. No maybe. Do it.”

“I’ll think about it,” I tell her, a slow smile creeping over my face. I know she’s right but I can’t help winding her up just a little.

“You know what, I think I need to come down there and set you straight.”

I laugh. “And how are you going to do that?”

“Force you out of your bubble.” I suck in a breath. I know this tone of hers all too well. It usually comes right before she’s made up her mind about something and there will be no talking her out of it. “That’s it. I’m coming down there.”

I mash my lips together to keep from laughing. Yep, just as I thought. “Morgie, you can’t just up and decide to come down here on a whim.”

“I just did.” There is no room for argument in her tone. “Besides, it’s been forever since I’ve seen you and I need some best friend time.”

“Oh, I see,” I say, finally letting the giggle out. “This has nothing to do with me. It’s about you.”

“Exactly.”

I roll my eyes, the grin stuck to my face. “And when would this supposed trip happen?”

“Immediately.”

One of my brows shoots towards the heavens. “Immediately, huh?”

“Yes,” she muses. “You clearly need me and as your best friend, it is my contractual obligation to come to your aid.”

“Uh-huh… and when did I say I needed you exactly, ma’am?”

She scoffs. “I read between the lines. As your best friend, I’m very good at that.”

I let out a laugh, shaking my head at how utterly ridiculous she is.

“But, seriously, I’ve got some time off saved up at work and I need to get out of Arizona for a bit. This place is suffocating. I think I can be there by Wednesday.”

I lean back in my seat, counting the days in my head. It’s Friday so she would be here in five days, give or take. “And you’re gonna drive all the way here? By yourself?”

“Yeah,” she answers, sounding even more excited than she did before. “It’ll be fun and it will really get me in the mood to help you.”

“How will it do that?” I ask, resisting the urge to roll my eyes at her antics.

“It will be an adventure. By the time I get to Louisiana, I’ll be feeling all whimsical and shit and you will benefit from all that whimsy.”

I sputter out a laugh. “Yeah, okay. I guess I’ll just have to take your word for it.”

“You’ll see, my little Lenny. This is going to be amazing.” She pauses for just a moment before letting out a little squeal of excitement. “I gotta go call my boss and pack. I love you bunches.”

“Love you more, Morgie.”

“Byyyye, babes. I’ll text you as soon as I hit the road.”

She hangs up without waiting for an answer from me and I pull the phone away from my ear, laughing and shaking my head at my crazy best friend. As the news settles in, though, a smile stretches across my face.
