A woman?
Who would fucking do this to her?
Maybe Owen enlisted help…
“I heard her voice,” Lennon continues and my head snaps up, my gaze locking on her.
“Did you recognize it?”
She shakes her head. “No.”
“What did she say?” Max asks, jotting something down in his notepad. “Did you see her face?”
“No,” Lennon answers with a sigh. “She was wearing a mask.”
He nods, writing more notes as fast as he can. “And what did she say, Lennon?”
“She called me a ‘dumb bitch’ and a ‘cunt’ while she was hitting me and she screamed when I kicked her in the knee.”
All the air rushes out of my lungs as that scene plays out in my mind—this woman, whoever she is, hitting my girl with a baseball bat while calling her those names.
My fist clenches in my lap.
“Anything else we can use to identify her, Lennon?” Max asks, his gaze bouncing between her and I. “Her hair color? Eye color? Tattoos? Piercings?”
Lennon shakes her head, her bottom lip wobbling. “No, it all happened so fast. I’m sorry.”
“No,” Max answers, slipping his notepad into his back pocket. “You did great. This will point us in the right direction. I’ll get—”
My phone rings, cutting him off as I shove my hand in my pocket and pull it out. I glance at the screen.
Streak.
“Yeah?” I answer.
“I found something.”
I jerk up and Lennon lets out a hiss of pain as I jostle her. Turning, I offer her an apologetic look before I get up from the bed and let her settle herself back in.
“What is it?”
“Remember how I was looking at the bar footage for Owen’s friend?” he asks and I nod as I begin pacing the room.
Get to the fucking point.
“Yeah.”
“I’ve got him.”
I suck in a breath. “Who is it?”
“Derek.”
“What?” I hiss into the phone, jerking to a stop in the middle of the room. My pulse kicks in my forehead, pain blooming just above my eyes as I drag my hand through my hair.
“Yeah, man,” he answers, oblivious to my absolute fucking freak out. “I’ve got them on camera on more than one occasion, sitting at the bar and chatting.”
Fuck.
