Almost is Never Enough

It’s enough to send me over the edge.

My body arches off the bed as I cry out, fighting to keep my eyes open as my pussy clamps down on his cock. Wave after wave of an agonizing pleasure washing over me as he continues his relentless pace, guiding me through my release.

And even then, he doesn’t stop.

Aftershocks continue to wrack my body as he chases his own release, his jaw clenched and his body shaking with his need. I reach up and drag my fingers through the hair at the top of his neck.

“Come for me, baby,” I whisper. “Show the whole damn world who this woman belongs to.”

“Fuck,” he roars, stilling above me as his cock jerks inside me. My body responds to his, clenching around his length and he groans. His head drops to my shoulder as he struggles to catch his breath and I run my fingers through his hair as he comes down from his orgasm.

“I can’t lose you.” The words are barely audible and ragged, like he had to force them past his lips and I still.

“What?”

He pulls back and meets my eyes. “I can’t lose you. I need you.”

My heart breaks at the uncertainty and desperation in his gaze.

Where in the hell is this coming from?

“I’m not going anywhere,” I tell him, reaching up and laying my hand on his cheek. He shakes his head.

“I don’t know what I would do if someone ever hurt you. It would destroy me. I… I couldn’t survive that.”

“Dalton,” I whisper, searching his eyes and trying to understand. “Where is this coming from?”

He looks away from me, closing his eyes and his jaw flexes. “Owen was the one who drugged you.”

“What?”

He releases a breath and pulls out of me. I wince, missing the feel of him instantly, as he flops down next to me on the bed and runs a hand through his hair.

“He was there at Voodoo that night. Said he just wanted to get you away from me, talk to you.”

I suck in a sharp breath. “He drugged me?”

I can’t believe it.

And yet, after everything else we’ve learned, it makes sense.

Dalton nods, clenching his teeth as he stares up at the ceiling with fire in his eyes. “Said he never meant to hurt you and he was sorry.”

“Do you believe him?” I ask and he turns his head to look at me.

“I don’t know, baby.” He sighs. “I just know that the thought of someone ever hurting you like that again… it makes me feel…”

“Feral?” I supply, a smile teasing my lips and he grins. His gaze drops down my body for a moment before meeting mine again.

“Something like that.”

“What happened with Owen? Is he-”

“He’s still alive,” Dalton says, cutting me off. “Jumper and Gear pulled me off. But he won’t be coming around ever again.”

“I’m surprised,” I say and he flashes me a lazy grin.

“You were the one who stopped me from killing him.”
