“Menace,” she calls, smiling and shaking her head. I wink and spin around to the clubhouse door where Gear and Jumper are waiting for me. Jumper is staring at me like I grew another fucking head.
“Dude, who are you?” he asks, scanning my face intently. “And what the hell did you do with my best friend?”
I roll my eyes and shove past him to get to the door. “Shut the fuck up.”
“No, genuinely,” he continues, the two of them following behind me as I open the clubhouse door and step inside. “Did you go see a doctor or something?”
I glance back at him. “What? Why the fuck would I go see a doctor?”
“To get a personality transplant because, again,” he says, his brow arching higher with each word. “Who are you?”
“Want me to beat your face in to see if I’m still the same guy?” I ask and he holds his hands up in surrender, slowing his pace slightly.
“Hey, now… no need for all that.” He flashes me a fucking grin that lets me know that he knows exactly what he’s doing. ‘I’m just a concerned friend over here.”
“You’re fucking annoying is what you are,” I tell him and he dramatically places his hand over his chest and lets out a breath.
“Oh, thank God. There he is. Good to have you back, old buddy.”
I roll my eyes. “I really am going to hit you.”
“Again,” he says, moving his hand up to shield his face. “Don’t mess up my best asset. Also, why is it always violence with you, man? Very caveman.”
“Are you fuckers about done?” Storm asks, standing at the door to the chapel and I nod.
“I sure as fuck am.”
“Well, I’m… “
“You’re done,” Storm adds, cutting Jumper off and Gear starts laughing as he follows me into the room. We all take our usual seats as the others begin filling the room. Once everyone is seated and the doors are shut, Storm calls church to order. There is a current of tension in the room and I drum my fingers on the table as I wait for someone to start talking. Storm turns to Hawk and nods.
“Hawk?”
Shit.
Here it is.
The information about this network and a possible solution for Raya.
Hawk nods, pulling some papers out of the folder on the table in front of him. He lays them down and smooths his hands over them before looking up at us. “Spoke to Ben about this network he’s setting up and I need to stress that this is in an early stage but I think it’s a solid option both for Raya and the club as a whole.”
“What does that mean?” I ask and Hawk looks across the table at me.
“Ben and several ex-military buddies have come together to form this network. Ben handles the tech side of things and he’s fucking genius…”
Streak scoffs. Hawk turns, shooting him a look that he doesn’t see because he doesn’t even bother to look up from his computer.
“Other people can be skilled at tech stuff, Streaky,” Chance says with a laugh. The look on Streak’s face sours even more and he shakes his head.
“Y’all throw the word ‘genius’ around a little too fucking freely.”
“Oh, so it only applies to you, then?” Fuzz asks and he nods.
“Exactly.”
“Back to the matter at hand,” Storm says, pinching the bridge of his nose, before he tips his head to Hawk to continue. Hawk narrows his eyes at Streak but it doesn’t land. Streak is too absorbed in his computer to notice.
“The other guys with Ben each have different skill sets to round out the team,” Hawk continues. “And their mission is to save as many women as they can from domestic violence. When Ben and I spoke, he said he was very interested in us joining this network.”
