Dalton has shown me in so many ways that what he and I have is special.
But… what if he did the exact same thing with her?
“Oh, babe,” she says, a frown on her face as she places her hand on my upper arm. “You’re already in too deep. God, he works fucking fast.”
She shakes her head.
“I’m so sorry.”
I lick my lips and slowly shake my head. “Not your fault.”
“I’m gonna go.” She looks over at the ring and sighs. “Guard your heart as much as you can, babe.”
She gives my arm a squeeze, a sympathetic look on her face, before she releases me and turns, making her way back through the crowd. I stare after her, her words ringing in my head over and over again. Then, memories from the last two weeks begin filtering through my mind.
Dalton taking me to his favorite food truck for our first date.
Bringing me here to a fight and us having sex for the first time in the trailer out back.
How many other women has he snuck into those trailers?
Riding on the back of Dalton’s bike.
Waking up in his arms in the morning.
Am I just the latest in a long line of women to think they were special to him?
I don’t know what to believe.
Because Dalton does make me feel special.
He makes me feel like the only woman in the world.
But how would she know that?
How would she know how that feels unless he did the exact same thing to her?
“Lennon,” Jumper says and I startle, looking up at him. His brows furrow. “You okay?”
I blink up at him, nodding slowly. “Uh…yeah. I think the heat is just…getting to me.”
“Let’s get you some water,” he says, placing his hand on my lower back and guiding me over to the bar. He signals the bartender, who quickly fetches us a couple of waters. I open mine and take a tiny sip. My stomach rolls.
“I’m not feeling well,” I tell Jumper. He studies me, concern written all over his face. “Do you think you could take me back to the compound?”
His brows furrow. “You sure?”
“Yeah,” I say, pressing a hand to my stomach. “I think I might puke.”
He glances over at the ring. “Let me just let Dalton know.”
“No,” I blurt out, shaking my head. “I really don’t feel good. Just take me to the compound and then you can come back and let him know. I’ll be safe there, right?”
He nods. “Yeah, of course you will.”
“Please, Jump.” I press my hand to my stomach harder and bring the cold water bottle up to my forehead. “I really just want to go lay down.”
“Yeah, okay.”
