“I didn’t want to be rude…”
I shrug my shoulders because I know it’s the truth. The car is junk and going downhill quickly.
“Well, I can’t help with the car but do you need a ride somewhere?”
“Do I have to sit in the back?”
“Only if you’re bad,” he replies, his eyes flashing with heat and my body thrums with excitement.
“Oh, Officer Wheeler,” I say, looking at his name badge, “I’m always bad.”
He smirks. “You can call me Ryan.”
I smile up at him. “Okay, Ryan.”
He jogs around to the passenger side of the car and opens the door for me. I thank him before sliding onto the soft leather seat. As he walks around to the driver’s side, I realize that I can’t remember the last time a guy opened a door for me. After he climbs in, he grabs a bottle of water out of the cup holder and offers it to me.
“Water?”
I forget everything else except my intense thirst as I grab the bottle out of his hand.
“Thank you!” I exclaim and proceed to chug the entire thing. When I’m done, he chuckles and I look down at the bottle, blushing. “Sorry.”
“No big deal,” he assures me. “Where am I headed?”
“Uh…Moe’s. Do you know it?”
He grins as he pulls back onto the road. “Sure do. It’s one of my favorite bars. Do you work there?”
“Yeah, I’ve been there for about six months.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you. I’m in there with my friends almost every weekend.”
“Maybe you just missed me.”
He smiles and shakes his head. His eyes rake over my body and I suck in a breath. “Naw, I wouldn’t have missed you.”
I blush, looking down at my hands and he chuckles.
“I never did get your name, by the way,” he says and I peek over at him.
“I’m Emma.”
His smile is warm when he glances over at me. “Do you have a last name, Emma?”
“I do,” I answer, pleased when I’m greeted with a hearty chuckle from him.
“And would you mind telling me what it is?”
I pause for a moment like I’m thinking it over before saying, “Harrington.”
“It’s very nice to meet you, Emma Harrington.”
“It’s very nice to meet you, too, Ryan.”
My phone starts buzzing frantically in my hand, going crazy with missed texts and I smile when I read the messages from Moe.
Moe:
