“Did you see your brother and Daisy today?” I giggle as I think about them.
“Oh, yeah, I saw.”
Tucker never left Daisy’s side once tonight. They danced and laughed all evening. I’ve never seen my brother look at anyone the way he does my best friend.
“I’d put money on him proposing soon.”
My eyes meet his. “Why? How do you know?”
“He’s just got that look, baby.”
“What look?”
He smiles and runs his thumb back and forth across my cheek. “The look a man has when he’s thinking about forever; the same look I saw in the mirror not too long ago.”
“Nix,” I sigh, at a loss for anything else to say. I snuggle back into him. “You know, you claim you’re not a romantic guy but you say such perfect things.”
“I just tell the truth, baby. If it’s the perfect thing, then it’s because of you. You’re the other half of me.”
“See! That right there! Perfect.”
He laughs. “Only for you, Emma.”
“No, I’m pretty sure any other girl would melt if you said that to them.”
He shakes his head at me, exasperated. “Maybe, but you are the only woman I’ve ever said them to, and the only woman I ever will say them to so this conversation is a little pointless.”
The song changes again, this time playing “Mirrors”by Justin Timberlake, and I glance up at Nix. “Did you plan that one?”
He laughs. “No, definitely not.”
“You’re so smooth.”
“Only—”
“Yeah, yeah. Only for me, I know,” I interrupt, and he chuckles again.
“I love you, Emma.”
“Forever?”
“Forever, baby.”
