“Yes!” This was a ravishing and I was all in. He pumped hard and fast as if he could chase down both of our orgasms and tame it into submission. “Knox,” I groaned as pleasure sped up my body from my toes.

“Come for me, Ivy. I need to feel that greedy cunt squeezing my cock.”

Before I could catch my breath, his mouth was on mine again, his tongue fucking my mouth in a wet and filthy kiss that lit the stick of dynamite that exploded pure pleasure out of me. “Knox, yes!”

He hooked one arm behind my neck and pressed his forehead to mine as he pounded into me, harder and faster, until he found his own orgasm. I was so sensitive, I felt his cock swell inside of me. I felt the hot spurts crawl through his cock before erupting into me.

And then he gave me all of his weight, breathing heavily in my ear. “That’s one.”

I wasn’t sure if I would survive this man, but I planned to enjoy the ride.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Knox

Iwoke up before she did, and that was new. For years I came out of sleep already braced. Hand near the gun, mind running the night’s loose ends before my eyes were even open. That was the job. A man in the VP chair didn’t get to wake up slow.

But Ivy had her cheek on my chest and one leg thrown over mine like she’d staked a claim even in sleep, and for a long while I didn’t move. Didn’t reach for a damn thing, not my phone or my gun. I lay there in the gray light coming through the blinds and listened to her slow, even breaths.

My phone buzzed against the nightstand and the world interfered the way it always did.

The message was from Switch.

Got something. Come down ASAP.

I eased out from under her, slow so I wouldn’t wake her. She made a small sound and rolled into the warm spot I left behind, chasing it in her sleep. I stood there longer than I needed to and watched her. I told myself it was because she’d had nightmares all week, still flinched in her sleep every time a loud noise sounded in the distance. That was a fucking lie and I knew it. I just plain liked looking at her.

Years of keeping myself and my feelings behind locked doors, and this woman walked through every one of them like they had never been shut.

I pulled on jeans and a shirt and went to see what Switch had.

Rook sat behind the other desk studying the stack of papers, pretending he didn’t notice my arrival.

Switch had three monitors going and wore the crazed look of a man who was overdue for a full night of sleep. When I came in, he spun his chair around, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.

“You get any sleep?” I asked.

“Sleep’s for guys who don’t have Rex Price by the balls.” He tapped a key and one of the screens woke up. “I found her.”

I didn’t have to ask who. “Carla Price.” My hands buzzed with the idea that he found this unknown link to Rex.

“You found Carla Price,” Hatchet said from the doorway. He moved slower than I’d ever seen him move as he stepped inside the office and took a seat with a grunt.

“Carla Price,” he confirmed with a satisfied nod. He pulled up a map and zoomed until a single street filled the screen. “That fifteen grand a month doesn’t just disappear into a blank account. If it did, the account would be bigger than it is, which means somebody is taking the money out. It took me a while to peel it back because this shit was set up to stay hidden, but the money walks out the other end right here.” He pointed. “From a small regional bank in Reno.”

My pulse sped up at this confirmation. We were closer than we’d ever been to figuring out Rex’s secrets, which meant taking him down. “How’d you crack it?” I asked.

Switch tipped his head toward the stack of files still spread across the second table, the guts of that hollowed-out book Ivy had handed me like she was handing over her own ribs. “Your girl did half my work for me. Rex kept papers he never should’ve kept, and she handed it right to us. Once I had those account numbers, the rest was just patience. And time.” He cracked his knuckles. “I’m good, but I’m not magic. She’s the reason we’re this far.”

His words were a direct hit to a spot somewhere behind my sternum. Ivy had given up the only leverage she had, handed it over without being asked, and now it was pulling Rex’s whole world down one thread at a time.

I leaned close and read the address off the screen, memorizing it the way I’d been taught. “That’s a long fucking drive.”

“Yeah,” he agreed with a heavy sigh. “She’s careful, like she doesn’t want to be found. She buys nearly everything online and there’s nothing in that name that means a damn thing. No utilities or leases, not even a car rental or Uber. Whoever Carla Price is, she’s kept her head down a long time.”

“That’s a lot of work to stay off the radar for something completely fuckin’ innocent,” Hatchet added with a grunt.

“A secret wife, or maybe a whore he had to pay off?” I said, because it was still my best guess and I didn’t have a better one. Rex using some of the money to pay off a woman was the only thing that made sense.
