Gabriel’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t mention other men right now. I’ve lost sleep thinking about it.”

“I so like it when you get jealous.”

“I think you’ll have other things to like here in a moment.”

He was about to kiss me again when there was a bang on the door. His arm came up to shield me.

Only, it was Kerry pressing her face into the glass. “Jackie was right! Guys, Jackie was right!”

More shadows ran to the window.

Slowly, Gabriel turned to look at me.

“Okay, so you were right. They do care.”

“They always care.”

We meant to make it to Gabriel’s bedroom.

We made it to the couch instead.

The second we were somewhere private, he was on me in a totally different way. Kissing him had been good, but now his hands were involved, and they went everywhere. I’d never forgotten what it was like when he finally lost control, and I took in the way he gripped me to him, never letting me pull away.

His lips were on my neck and he was right on the spot that always got me.

Next to me, my phone was blowing up with messages, probably from everyone telling me what a bad idea this was. They were right. I was heading toward heartbreak.

I’d be sad when he left, but I’d be sadder if I didn’t do this.

That was what kept me going.

We stumbled to the couch, neither of our holds loosening. I wound up on top of him, lips moving against his. My tongue swiped over his and he let me in without hesitation.

There was something freeing about this. This wasn’t a one-time thing. We could do it again. Sure, he’d leave in the end, but I couldn’t think about that. All I could think about was us.

Our kiss quickly grew messier. I took it all in now that I knew I was the only one he’d done this with. It was just me.

God, I didn’t know how much I needed to know that.

It was so much hotter now that I knew the reasons.

I needed more. I needed to touch him in all the ways I told myself I couldn’t. I needed him to be close to me and want me just as much as I did him.

Wanting isn’t the issue, Jade.

I paused, my logic winning for one second.

“J-Jade?” he asked.

I forced myself out of it.

“I’m good. Just in shock that this is happening.” It was a lie, but my voice was level enough that he believed me.

Or he appeared to.

I wasn’t going to let him think too hard about me.

My hands went under his shirt, ghosting over his skin. Gabriel’s eyes slipped shut.
