I start toward the stairs.
“You never came home last night.”
I stop and look back at him. “Are you my mother now?”
“No. Just making an observation.”
“One that is unwarranted.”
“I'm just saying. You move into our house for one night and immediately disappear the next. I think I’m entitled to curiosity.”
“You are entitled to nothing.”
His grin spreads. “So there was someone.”
I turn fully toward him. “I am going to be very happy when I have my own place again, and no one is keeping track of when I come through the door.”
That catches his attention immediately. “Oh, so you found somewhere?”
“I did.”
His expression changes from entertained to genuinely interested. “Already?”
“I had a very productive day.”
“I bet.”
I ignore that. “Amazing place. Private floor, plenty of space, excellent security.”
Tomasso nods. “Good location?”
“Very.”
“View?”
The question sends an image through my head so quickly and vividly that I almost laugh.
Blair on her hands and knees on the bed, black hair falling around her shoulders, the city beyond the glass reduced to a blur of lights around her reflection.
Her green eyes meeting mine in the window.
“Great view,” I say.
Understatement of the century.
I start smiling before I can stop myself.
The memories keep coming. Blair waking up this morning and realizing exactly where she was. The horror on her face when she remembered the seller was returning later today. The blanket wrapped around her while she stalked through the penthouse, gathering clothing and informing me, with increasing fury, that her career, dignity, integrity, and possibly entire future had been destroyed.
She cursed me practically the entire drive back to Meridian.
I enjoyed every second of it.
Especially because by then she had managed to restore most of her clothing but absolutely nothing else. Her black hair was wildly mussed no matter how many times she tried smoothing it down; her lips were still swollen from my kisses, and every time she looked at me there was a furious spark in her eyes that only made me want to pull the Aston over and ruin whatever progress she had made getting herself presentable.
Then I dropped her off in the garage and discovered the car.
A blue 1973 Corvette Stingray.
