But I can't make myself.

Randall starts leading him through the office, still talking animatedly, and the two of them move slowly enough that I get a better look. He is different than most of the men who come through here looking for luxury condos.

Those men are either too young and using family money, or too old, having worked a lifetime to afford it.

But he's definitely different. He holds the kind of quiet confidence that doesn't need to announce itself because it's obvious in every movement he makes.

People glance up as he passes, then immediately pretend they were doing something else. Randall keeps talking, gesturing toward conference rooms and offices like he is conducting a private tour.

Then Mr. Conti looks in my direction.

Our eyes meet.

I expect the usual quick glance strangers exchange when they accidentally catch each other looking.

Instead, his attention stays on me.

For one second, maybe two, there is nothing particularly remarkable about it. Then his mouth curves into an unmistakably flirtatious smile.

Smooth. Easy.

And entirely intentional.

My brows lift before I can stop them.

His smile deepens by a fraction, like he enjoys the reaction, and then Randall says something that draws his attention back. The moment breaks, and they continue toward Randall’s office.

I stare after them.

Well.

That was subtle.

Leah waits until Randall ushers him inside and closes the door before rolling her chair toward mine.

“Do you have any idea who that is?” she says quietly.

I turn toward her. “Should I?”

Her expression tells me the answer is obviously yes.

“That,” she says, lowering her voice even though the office door is closed, “is Diego Conti.”

She says the name as though it should mean something, though I cannot place exactly why.

Then Carter swivels around from his desk behind us. “As in the Contis.”

I look between them. “That narrows it down tremendously.”

Leah leans closer. “They’re the ones who just acquired Meridian.”

I glance toward Randall’s closed office door again. One of the new owners. That explains the ass-kissing.

I remember the easy smile Diego Conti sent me as he crossed the office.

Interesting.
