Always my choice now.
So I slide my fingers into his dark hair and kiss him again. That's all the permission he needs.
He kisses me like he means it.
Like he's been starving for this.
Like he really has missed me.
Like he never wants to let me go again.
His arms tighten around me, pulling me flush against his chest, and heat curls low in my belly despite the cold medicine making the rest of me feel pleasantly boneless.
“You're supposed to be taking care of me,” I murmur against his mouth.
“I brought soup.”
“That doesn't make this medically advisable.”
“I also brought medicine.”
“Still not how medicine works, Mr. Knight.”
“I'm not a doctor.”
“Finally, something you admit you can’t do.”
His laugh rumbles against me before he kisses the corner of my mouth, then my jaw. I shiver.
“Cold?”
“No.”
His icy blue eyes meet mine. Far too knowing.
“Good.”
“Don't look smug.”
“I've missed you sitting in my lap.”
My face heats.
“I've missed sitting here.”
The smugness disappears.
Just like that.
His hand comes up to cup my cheek.
“I've missed everything about you, Firecracker.”
Fuck.
Heat, I can handle.
But that? That goes straight for my heart.
