“Fuck.”
I don’t know how long I sit there before I get up and leave my office and head to the training facility.
It is all the things she said it was. Grand. Expensive. State-of-the-art. And a fucking labor of love.
Then, one loud voice interrupts my thoughts.
“I always knew you were an arsehole, Knight.”
I look across the Rovers’ training facility at Dane.
“Thank you, Coach. Very insightful.”
“You're welcome.”
Koa nods.
“Massive arsehole.”
Tank considers me.
“Historic levels, really.”
Luca takes a drink of water.
“I don't know. I've seen worse.”
“Thank you.”
“I meant from children.”
“Fuck all of you.”
Nobody appears offended.
They know about Layla’s article.
And because I apparently am a complete ‘arsehole’, I tell them Layla's article is extraordinary and I assume its complete objectivity means she wants nothing more to do with me.
He stares at me for approximately five seconds.
Then he calls me an arsehole again.
“You're telling me,” Dane says slowly, “that this woman found out you originally brought her into your house because you were setting a trap to see if she was digging around about your Granddad and you wanted to control what she knew.”
I glare.
“Yes.”
“You didn't tell her any of that yourself.”
“No.”
“Even after you slept together?”
“No!”
“And she found out from your nasty assistant.”
