Kill me now.

Dane studies me for another second.

“Does she know?”

My stomach drops. I don't ask what he means.

And that's answer enough.

“No.”

Nobody laughs. Nobody gives me shit.

Somehow, I'd prefer it if they did.

Koa is the one who finally speaks.

“You gonna tell her?”

“Yes.”

The answer comes immediately. Because I am.

I have to.

I just haven't figured out how to tell the woman who's been sleeping in my bed that the arrangement bringing her there started because I didn't trust her.

That I still don't know exactly what she has on my grandfather. That somewhere between trying to protect my past and trying to control Layla, I stopped giving a fuck about the story and started giving entirely too many fucks about the reporter digging it up.

“When?” Dane asks.

“I'm working on that.”

Tank winces.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Say it.”

“Dani hates that sentence.”

“No offence, Tank, but why the fuck does it matter what Dani thinks about that sentence?”

“Because she's a woman.”

“So?”

“And you're currently fucking up with one.”

I stare at him. Koa coughs into his fist. Luca looks fascinated by the sky.

Dane mutters, “Subtle.”

“I don't pay him for subtlety,” I say.

Tank grins. “You don't pay me for relationship advice either, but apparently you need it.”
