“They’re good.”
His eyebrows rose.
“Good?”
“They are really good, Dad. Better than good.”
Dad studied me for a long moment.
“You love him.”
It was not a question.
Heat flooded my face.
“Yeah. I do.”
His expression softened, but only a little.
“I figured as much.”
I looked down at the table. A few seconds passed before I finally spoke.
“After dinner last week, he told me he wants to marry me.”
Dad exhaled slowly and rubbed his temple.
“Marriage. After only two months?”
I groaned and leaned forward.
“Dad.”
“You have only been together for two months, Samantha.”
“I know that.”
“Samantha.”
“I know.”
He rubbed a hand across his jaw, the way he always did when he was worried.
“You barely know each other.”
I sat back in my chair, frustration rising.
“It doesn’t feel that way to me at all.”
“That doesn’t make it true.”
I looked out the window at the sparkling ocean for a moment before turning back toward him.
“I know how it sounds to you.”
“Do you really?”
