“Relax,” I shush at her. “And let me in, wife.”
Her breath stutters out and she fucking comes, only half seated on my cock. I nearly bite through my tongue to hold on as she clenches around me, over and over, pulsing tighter each time.
“Goddamn it, Lily—”
I pull on her hips, taking advantage of her state of bliss and slipping all the way in.
“I told you to wait.” I slam my hips flush against her ass again. Hard, unforgiving. “Look at me. You’re gonna come until you cry now.”
She smiles with a little giggle, almost high off the orgasm, as she asks, “Do you promise?”
“Fuck.” I shake my head and slap her ass again as she squeaks and slides farther forward on the countertop. “Talking a lot of shit for a girl whose feet don’t even touch the ground.”
I swat her legs open wider for me, before slamming my hips a little faster, watching her face in the mirror as it twists in a heady mix of pain and ecstasy.
“More.”
“Needy girl,” I whisper, pressing a soft kiss to her temple, before fucking her rougher than usual. “Is this my reward, doll? Winning fucking assist. Fucking my perfect little wife’s cunt?”
My language makes her tighten again, but I grit my teeth and make it harder for her.
“Come again,” I order. “You don’t need permission. This is my reward. It’s your punishment.” I grip her ponytail again and tilt her eyes to meet mine in the mirror. “Say ‘Kane’ if you want me to stop.”
I make good on my promise. But making Lily cry with good sex is something I pride myself on.
She’s a puddle by the time I finish, little whimpers working out as I help her dress—only after kissing her body everywhere I could reach in the tiny, dim-lit bathroom. Then, I put her on my back after she complains her feet hurt in her very tall, heeled boots, wrapping her legs around my waist as we head out to call a car.
Holden bumps into us on the way, his hand holding tight to the lacrosse player as they go upstairs—but he stops and gives Lily a kiss on the forehead and bids us good night. And I take a moment to give the guy a little glare, just so he thinks twice about hurting my best friend.

Lily doesn’t show up for math Tuesday and she didn’t text me, which is enough to make me anxious. So the second the class is over I head straight to her town house.
I go in the front door this time—only to find Lily missing from the usual bustle downstairs. Paloma is cooking something, biting her lip as she darts her head over her shoulder.
“Oh, it’s you,” she greets sarcastically. I drop my stuff in the front entryway, hesitant but trying not to show it. She clears her throat when I don’t respond to her little quip. “Lily’s upstairs. She didn’t . . . she didn’t answer when I knocked. I’m a little worried about her.”
I nod. “I’ll check on her.”
“Hey, Kane?”
I look back at her.
“Congrats, on the win.”
I give her a slight nod and a quietly muttered “Thanks,” my mind already with the girl just feet away.
I don’t bother knocking, once I’m up the stairs and in front of Lily’s room. Instead, I just walk in—because I know it will be unlocked. Lily wants company, wants people to check on her; she’s just never gotten to have that.
My stomach drops.
She’s in her clothes, shoes still on, lying in the bed facing me. Her eyes don’t move when I walk in, don’t even glaze over as I step through.
I’ve always felt invincible, almost otherworldly with the way Lily reacts to me. Is it strange to feel like a failure when she can’t even look up?
“Hey, Lil,” I try, closing the door quietly and carefully behind me.
She doesn’t say anything, eyes just blinking slowly. She’s not asleep; she looks almost catatonic, and I hate it.
